Doug,
Make sure that the Voice Squelch Control circuit is turned OFF. See if your display says "VSC" on it and if it does turn it off. I think it's page 84 of the manual.
I run my RF Gain/Squelch set to "auto" as I just kind of like it that way.

Hope this helps and just something to try before you start looking for cold solder joints and stuff.

Doug,

I had a similar issue with mine, and I discovered by accident when preparing to install the radio in my vehicle, that the audio jack on the side of the head unit had bad solder joint on inductor L251.  I tried plugging an external speaker into the side jack during one of those times when the radio audio had cut out, to discover that I still did not have any audio.  But as I pulled the phono jack partially back out, I did have audio.
It took me a  while to narrow it down due to the schematic in the manual I downloaded didn't match my circuit board. It wasn't until one of the HAMs (sorry, I don't remember his call sign) mentioned that there is an addendum to the manual, which did match my board.

Just a word of caution, the circuit board and traces will only tolerate so much heat, so use the smallest solder tip you can find and apply minimal heat.

Below is the joint that I had found to be my issue.

I’ve been following this thread because I’ve had the same problem with a used IC7000 I bought several years ago. I bought a replacement mic (off of eBay, which was probably stupid) just to find it had the exact same issue. I think now that maybe it was one of the original faulty ones that Icom pulled. Who knows.

I’m looking forward to trying the fix you’re talking about as soon as I can replace the antennas a tornado got.

I tried back mic jack....very weird...works better but only if I turn vox on... I am really confused by the issue and if it is hardware of software related, I didn't have time to torture shoot too much I will tonight. If vox is off it seems to not be in tx although now I get the led on the mic....

Very common issue is the momentary switch inside the mic fails..

If you open the mic and press the button hard it should TX.

Lots of folks that do the mic mod replace the switch as well..

(I have the OEM mic that has failed in a box)

Have you tried it into a dummy load? That is what I would try first, just to make sure you don't have an RF problem. And the 7000 has two mike jacks, one on the control head and one on the back of the main radio. Try them both.

However, my IC-7000 is all programmed and I just need to resolve why the rig will no longer scan in memory mode.

If you have a RT-Systems software and their USB cable, you can download your memories, edit, and then upload them back into your rig (without a complete reset).  If you had to reset, at least you would have a backup.

I believe you can also use Chirp (for the same objective), realizing that memory edits within Chirp, on this rig, are ‘live’… so be careful that you don’t barf your other memories.  Using Chirp does require a USB CAT cable, but not one with the embedded RT-Systems ID.  As an aside, you can use the RT cable on Chirp (and with other HAM CAT software).

You may wish to consider organizing your memories by frequency / antenna alignment (6 meters and below in groups, above in other groups).  This will save your relays from clicking between antennas on memory scan.  You could use one of the memory groups for repeaters, if you don’t mind the clicking.

I recently added a new VHF frequency to the memory.  It showed up on the frequency list, but when I went to scan the memory channels, that function was frozen.  I took the entry out and tried again, but no scan.  Scan does work in VFO mode to scan the VHF range.  I don't want to do a master reset and am hoping there is a simple cure.

Anyone know how to resolve this?

My USB port happens to be 22 (using a RTS cable).

That error is generally associated with not picking the correct USB port (at least for me).  Could you have another program running that conflicts with Flrig (i.e. running WSJTX at the same time you trying to run Flrig, or Log4OM with frequency updates?).

This is a dedicated port, for one function - CAT control.  Specialty software may allow you to share the port- i.e. virtualizing it, then sharing it.

Let me know - if it works with HRD, you are close (use the same USB port number as HRD, and make sure HRD is completely closed).

Dx Engineering was not encouraging about  RS_BA1 for the IC-7000 and the Intel literature has a few caveats in terms of reduced capabilities but still probably the best option.

 

As an aside, I thought I would see if I could connect FLRIG with 7000 but had no luck; played with baud rates Comm  port designations, etc., no luck. As a diagnostic step, I was able to instantly connect with an old version of HR Deluxe, so the cable is working and HR Deluxe likes the comm settings. Any favorite items to double check on the FLRIG configuration?

I would not say dealing with the video is a show stopper but is added complexity and cost over the efforts I've seen with the IC-7100 (which is just data and audio in/out).  In the IC-7100, the data is serial data but not CI-V and the solutions generally pass the data without trying to interpret it (specifics are available at that link).  The real issue I see is that the IC-7100 is a simpler platform to get working and I have seen a number of efforts to virtualize that head cable.  I would say only the RemoteRig solution has been entirely successful and complete.  Adding video to the list of issues to solve (not addressed by RemoteRig) makes it quite a hurdle.

There are a number of TRUE (operation over the Internet) remote solutions.  You mentioned WFView and there is also Win4IcomSuite https://icom.va2fsq.com/remote-control/.  Both of those are designed for the more modern Icom radios (with USB and network connectivity) and focus on the transport of the real-time spectrum scope that is not an IC-7000 feature.  I mentioned the Icom RS-BA1 software because it specifically supports the IC-7000 and likely offers the best support for all the features of the radio that are available remotely.

When using digital modes remotely, there is another solution.  You can connect the radio to a local machine with whatever software you want to run (FLDigi/FLRig or WSJT-X), then use some kind of remote desktop software (Windows Remote Desktop, TeamViewer, AnyDesk, Chrome Remote Desktop, etc.) to remotely connect to the local PC/radio.  I have used all these solutions and have settled on Chrome Remote Desktop to make a bunch of WSJT contacts on the IC-7100 and IC-7610 in my office while sitting comfortably in front of the TV at home.
