Re: IC- 7000 USB Driver Software needed

Be aware of one very important thing and that is that a whole lot of the FTDI chips in adapters are counterfeit and this why the WIN 10 will not locate them.
You might have on of the adapters with the counterfeit chips and this could be the reason that it will not find it.
I have had some that would give a warning and some that would do nothing.
This has been said several times here.

Your question I hope is answered in a couple of replies to other suggestions.

This solution requires one to actually see a detected com port before applying the fix. My computer does not recognize the device I am using (FT231X USB UART). I'm continuing my research.

Re: IC- 7000 USB Driver Software needed

If you go to device manager and find the FT231X listed under USB COM etc. then go to driver and hit the search for driver on the web.
You can also search for it.
Try looking here:

I get it. You are absolutely right. So where can I find a driver for a FT231X USB UART (RS232 to USB converter) adapter that will work on Windows 10 version 2004 ?

I had a similar problem when I upgraded to Windows 10.

Microsoft autoinstalled drivers detect whether the USB to serial chip is a true Prolific or FTDI chip or a clone.

If it is a clone, chip the autoinstalled driver will disable the chip.

I found there were two choices:

1) find the old drivers and manually install them and then do not install the windows 10 updated to the FTDI or Prolific chip drivers ( aibt of  pain)

2) throw out all my old clone usb to serial adapters and get new adapters which use standard FTDI or Prolific chips

I chose option 2.

Re: IC- 7000 USB Driver Software needed

There is not a driver for your ic7000! There is a driver for the USB cable you are using to convert to the RS232. The CABLE not the IC7000. The IC7000 has no driver as there is no USB converter in it.

What does the device manager say?
right click the start button (lower left corner)
and scroll up the list.

Since the IC7000 does not have a USB interface you should tell us which
interface you are using. If it is a cheap chinese one, it is possible there is a clone FTDI
chip in it which is causing your driver problem.

The following could solve your problem.

The latest USB should work… 1.30

But the earlier version are there.

Re: IC- 7000 USB Driver Software needed

Download the Windows 10 doesn't like the drivers for many of the Serial converters that do not have the genuine chips used. The drivers from the chip companies now check for having the real thing.
Look for different drivers and you might have to look in device manager to see what you are dealing with and change the driver/

The correct position for the SWR/PWR Meter is between the Radio and the Tuner for it to work properly.

Re: Temp always showing hot #all

I think he is saying that the radio shows hot when it is first turned on and not transmitting. You are correct that if it were operated at 100 watts for long on Digital it will be plenty hot.
If the sensors are lying to the CPU then the meter would read high.

"100W on FT8"

HI Kurt,
I'm not surprised the radio shows "hot" when running a full-duty cycle for 15 seconds at a time. Have you tried cutting back the power of FT8 (maybe 40w) and seeing if the temperature is still high.
Also:  Does it run how on SSB or other modes?

Try it without the tuner plugged in. Radio direct to the dummy load.

Re: Temp always showing hot #all

Somehow the long answer I made failed to make it. On the PA board there are thermistors that read the temp. I think that they are R734 and R736 The hottest is directed to the CPU via D705 as the THML signal.
The CPU develops the temp meter on the display. These thermistors are fed from the +8 volt supply IC701.
On the schematic PA unit (1) upper left.
A quick search will find several articles on the heat and one has pictures of the thermal compound being added to get a better thermal connection of the thermistor to the heat sink.
The CPU (IIRC) also develops the FAN signal to turn on the fan. Some have modified the circuit bypassing the on off to have the fan run continuously.
When running FT8 I never ran over 50 watts, usually 30. A good antenna is a great addition to the station for FT8 or really any mode. I worked the world with a 43' vertical and a good radial system.
