706 series production
Nick Wall <nwall@...>
It seems strange that you are all talking of the end of the 706 series....
Nobody has said that it is to be discountiouned ! Just becasuse one web site doesnt list it doesnt mean that production has stopped. Icom has not stopped production of the 706 series ...so stop worrying...

Yes, here retailers still have the 706, with some price cut (15% below

former price). Usual prices here are at least 30% higher than in USA. So we have two posibilities a "Dayton special" price of 799.95USD or a SALE OUT price of 799.95 (includes free RMK706). As maybe this price it is not the normal price in USA as you suggest 950USD. Here the sale price it is now 850 Euro, about 1071USD, but usualy due to EU tax, the price in EU it is higher here than in USD in the US. My question was simple "we carry full ICOM line, if you dont see it call" it is not in the online catalog... so.. maybe someone could call that 800 phone, and tell us. The PDF full catalog is over 17Mb, very usefull, but not the fastest way to search for a price. So going back to my question: The 799,95 price printed in the PDF catalog, is it a Dayton special, still not in the online catalog, or is it a clearance sale out price? or both? It is difficult to believe they removed it by mistake. If (like in Spain) ICOM distributed a limited number of rigs, and R&L put that 799.95 price in the web, they may have run short of them, so they had to remove it from the web, even if still left on the PDF. Here in Spain ICOM distributed ONLY 30 units at that low price, still some available, but it is difficult to guess if it is a fixed time sale promotion or a clearance sale, in any case I was told that ONLY 30 units. Here in EU we have our "Dayton" in Friedrichshafen (Germany)june 24/26 Of course we are just gessing, this is what this group it is about untill ICOM tells something. So we follow some clues... but we may be fully wrong. IC-746PRO (IC7400 here) had a 25% price cut in april, and I got one for myself. I did not care for a PRO-II new version. At that price I could be wrong. I love its DSP So I am keeping a close eye on the 706. I think it is a superb rig. With ICOM going full IF-DSP I just would like to see a clearout sale on filters, that I think they are overpriced. This is the only weak point I see in the 706. All the references I have about it from ICOM or free lance repair services, is that it is a good rig (now MKIIG). And it is the highest seller ever of Ham rigs. Javier EA4CWY "Ya`akov N. Also note that ARRL will have computers and a wi-fi hot spot available in their national convention area. So please do post as soon as you find something interesting. I won't get there until Saturday (our club runs a bus day-trip there every year); heaven forbid I should have to wait 2 more days. :-) :-)

the end of IC-706 saga?
nicolasc33 <javier_ebay@...>
I was looking in http://www.randl.com online search. They claim in
its homepage "We carry the complete Icom amateur line. If you do not see a product listed here, please call." and the IC-706-MKIIG it is not for sale, it has got 21 sales references for it, including the removable head, but the rig itself it is not for sale. If I am right it has been removed form the online catalog. It is still listed in their PDF general catalog for 799.95 USD but it does not come on the online catalog. Any of you in the US would mind to phone them at 800-221-7735 and maybe post the reason for the IC-706 removal? maybe the IC-7000? Major european seller http://www.wimo.de removed last month from its online catalog the IC-7400 (IC-746PRO) but replaced it after few days. Same rumours as for the IC-7000 have circulated about a IC-746PROII, and both rigs (706 & 746PRO) have had price cuts lately in the spanish market. Javier EA4CWY

Re: Icom IC-F7000?

My reference for price estimate is at least 1.100 Euro (here),
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
without a tuner. That is about 1.430 USD But taking in account, general price differences Spain/USA, I would guess an USA price more in the 1100 range than 1900. Reduced prices of 706-II-G and 746PRO were 880 and 1480 Euro, That is 1144 and 1.924 USD, in here. Yaesu FT897D sells for (silly) 1250 USD here. I guess price (in local dealer) of rigs here are about 130% the price of an USA large dealer I check in internet (texas towers). I guess price in local dealers there can be higher too. Anyway ICOM is having an agresive price policy here, and is leading the market. Price of accesories a bit high. Regarding band scanner (if any) just to remember that 746PRO's is an off-line scanner. I figure out the rig to be a 706 ¿larger? with IF-DSP and some aditional gadget, at the price of a 706-II-G plus one filter. Anyway we will not see it here before september at least... So I keep my eye in the 706 price.. just in case. I would be nice to have the rig that has the sales record ever. In the meantime I love my new 746PRO-I. Rabatted price has bounced up again, that could mean that a possible "II" it is a bit delayed. ¿For Friedrichshafen in late june?. We have to wait. Like kids in Xmas eve. Javier EA4CWY

I wonder where the $1900 price caqme from. The last guestimate of price was $1100ish. MKM wrote:
Well, if the 7000 really has a real time band scope ala the pro series, I would assume that the rig needs to be larger than the 706 just because the additional dsp chip and circuitry needed for the band scope.

I would assume that the rig needs to be larger than the 706 just because the additional dsp chip and circuitry needed for the band scope. On the other hand, we really do not need a band scope in a mobile radio. I personally prefer a built-in tuner. Only three weeks left to Dayton. We shall see soon. Last I heard, the price is $1,899. Please do not shoot the messenger.

I don't understand why you people are getting hung up
on the IC-F7000. The F7000 is a commercial radio. It is not type accepted for the US (I don't think), but it has been in production for over 1 year. If there is going to be a new IC-7000, something will probably be anounced at Dayton. You have seen the e-mail that came from ICOMs TSR guy. --- uuhamfl <uuhamfl@aol.com> wrote: Please take note that I have discovered an Icom__________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I don't see why it couldn't be a similar size as the 706. Unless they decide in the interim to add a built-in ATU, why do you think it would be and as large as the TS-480 ? Hugh VA3TO MKM wrote:

Earlier reports indicated 20mm shorter compared to the 706 but I doubt it. I think it will be about the size of the Kenwood 480.
