Re: Big Annoucement at Hamvention tomorrow at 10AM.

Clint Bradford <clintbrad4d@...>

Part One of the big announcement: There is NO cease production date on
the Icom IC-706MKIIG.

Clint Bradford, K6LCS

Then IC-746PROII for Friedrichshafen, June 25th

nicolasc33 <javier_ebay@...>

OK, today it is the day then, we will not have it here the IC-7000
untill fall, waiting for certification.

It may be silly of me to make a final guess some 10 hours before ICOM
makes the official announcement.

Regarding price, it is not so difficult to guess, it will be clear
under the IC-746 price LESS a good ATU. I would guess again a price
in the range of 1.100 USD in large USA Inet shops.

Then comes the final advice I got yesterday from an independant
service man: "get a new IC-706 at these close out prices, I am
getting one". He believes Xtal filter is less noisy, simpler, and it
is a very mature rig. Really I just miss in 706 the IF BW control I
got on my new IC-7400 (746PRO).

So OK, if you have 3 706's you may sell one.. but if you have only
one, and you are happy with it, keep it. They do not visit service
very often.

Here after the former "special price" 706's were sold immediately a
new lot is being distributed. As the new ICOM IF DSP does not require
Xtal filters, I guess the last 706 units will have a nice price and
some added options included. This could be RMK, filter, PSU ... keep
eyes open and talk with your dealer. And 706 it is the highest seller
rig ever.

I am getting a 706, same as the service man I talk to. I know this
will not be a "ultimate top rig", but my latest toy. I will think in
october what will I do with the IC-7000, maybe I wait for a while
untill it is mature.

I hope to see it soon at Friedrichshafen in June 24/26, but still it
is not type aproved..

And IC-7000 it is a mobile, almost bottom of ICOM line, so dont
expect it to be better than IC-7800. Again a mobile it is not a
portable... neither a base rig, even if it can almost do. But I am
sure my wife will ask me to remove the Collins 32S3/51S3C and replace
it with the cute IC-7000, I am not sure I will do.

The advantage of being in this group, is that we will have a few
hours/days to decide to buy/sell a 706, according to the info today..
And in the meantime we have enjoyed the guessing game.

Guys,

I just got back from Hamvention, and had a conversation with a few of

told me they were going to have a big one tomorrow and I should
attend. I asked if it was a base or mobile, and they told it was the
size of a 706MKIIG. (Funny they used that as a comparison)

I asked if the jpg on the internet was a close match to the
announcement and they said it is very close.

So its pretty clear the folks at Icom have known about this radio and
they were told to not say anthing. I am sure the new HF Mobile will be
on display tomorrow. I will have my camera ready to get a picture.

One of the guys told me in a joking way, you can expect to see a lot of
706MKIIG's on ebay soon.

There are no new radios in the Icom booth today...Friday. BUT, they are telling everyone that they will have something very special to show tomorrow...so we'll see what it is then.

Re: - - - & IC-706 QSK

Hi Guys,
Sorry I missed Dayton this year. Since so many IC-706 guys are on here, possibly someone can suggest how I can run my IC-706MKiiG - Ameritron ALS-500M combo on QSK mobile CW. It works great on semi-break-in, but doesn't even work full break-in with my QSK-5 unit.

If the IC-7000 is for real, IF it has clean QSK at 40-55 WPM, and IF it has provision for amp keying, I may be ready to get serious.
Can someone at Dayton check the IC-7000 for a CW-only ham?

Thanks & 73,

The girls that were mentioned walking aroud was kind of funny.
IThe girls were in pink bath robes and furry shoes with a Icom t-
shirt. I spoke to one at length, and they were from a local high
sschool and were employed by Icom. They said when they ran out of
the kits, Icom told them to go around and give away Icom stickers.

Sarah and Trevor were seen walking around with a guy with a camera.
So It looks like they may have another video to download from Icom's
website after Hamvention that promotes the hobby. If you had not
seen last years, its pretty good.

Re: Any news from Dayton?? YES

Tim Gennett <k9wx@...>

Just back from the Hamvention.

Icom had a number of attractive young ladies in pajamas and bathrobes walking throughout Hara, passing out vinyl cases that say "Are you still out here?!? IC-7000." The cases contain a small toothbrush, a package of toothpaste, coffee creamer and sugar. When asked what it meant, all they would say was to be at the main Icom booth at 10 am on Saturday (tomorrow).

I will not be able to get back to Dayton tomorrow. Makes me kinda mad.

Nick Wall <nwall@...>

It seems strange that you are all talking of the end of the 706 series....
Nobody has said that it is to be discountiouned ! Just becasuse one

Re: the end of IC-706 saga?

nicolasc33 <javier_ebay@...>

Yes, here retailers still have the 706, with some price cut (15% below
former price). Usual prices here are at least 30% higher than in USA.

So we have two posibilities a "Dayton special" price of 799.95USD or a
SALE OUT price of 799.95 (includes free RMK706). As maybe this price it
is not the normal price in USA as you suggest 950USD. Here the sale
price it is now 850 Euro, about 1071USD, but usualy due to EU tax, the
price in EU it is higher here than in USD in the US.

My question was simple "we carry full ICOM line, if you dont see it
call" it is not in the online catalog... so.. maybe someone could call
that 800 phone,and tell us.

The PDF full catalog is over 17Mb, very usefull, but not the fastest
way to search for a price.

So going back to my question: The 799,95 price printed in the PDF
catalog, is it a Dayton special, still not in the online catalog, or
is it a clearance sale out price? or both? It is difficult to believe
they removed it by mistake.

If (like in Spain) ICOM distributed a limited number of rigs, and R&L
put that 799.95 price in the web, they may have run short of them, so
they had to remove it from the web, even if still left on the PDF.

Here in Spain ICOM distributed ONLY 30 units at that low price, still
some available, but it is difficult to guess if it is a fixed time sale
promotion or a clearance sale, in any case I was told that ONLY 30
units.

Here in EU we have our "Dayton" in Friedrichshafen (Germany)june 24/26

Of course we are just gessing, this is what this group it is about
untill ICOM tells something. So we follow some clues... but we may be
fully wrong.

IC-746PRO (IC7400 here) had a 25% price cut in april, and I got one for
myself. I did not care for a PRO-II new version. At that price I could
be wrong. I love its DSP

So I am keeping a close eye on the 706. I think it is a superb rig.
With ICOM going full IF-DSP I just would like to see a clearout sale on
filters, that I think they are overpriced. This is the only weak point
I see in the 706. All the references I have about it from ICOM or free
lance repair services, is that it is a good rig (now MKIIG). And it is
the highest seller ever of Ham rigs.

I just finished purchasing my second ic706mkiig in Canada for
CDN$1199 which works out to about the same price, once the
foreign exchange is taken into consideration.

I was looking in http://www.randl.com online search. They claim in
its homepage "We carry the complete Icom amateur line. If you do not
see a product listed here, please call." and the IC-706-MKIIG it is
not for sale, it has got 21 sales references for it, including the
removable head, but the rig itself it is not for sale. If I am right
it has been removed form the online catalog.
I was in the R and L store Saturday and they had one on display. Other US
dealers still sell it.
