IC7000 Intermittently Deaf on 80 Meters when Cold

N1GBE

I have my 7000 mounted in my car. I have noticed that when the temperature is below freezing, my 7000 is deaf on 80 meters when I first turn it on. I have also noticed that the receive kicks right in with normal sensitivity at 4.000.000 MHz. If I tune one step lower, receive cuts out. If I tune back up to 4.000.000 MHz receive pops back in. This condition goes away once the interior of the car warms up a bit.

My question to the group is: Is there something in the receive chain that switches right at 4.000.000 MHz? Perhaps a sealed BPF relay that has become unsealed and gotten moisture inside of it???

Thanks,
N1GBE

I just bought three of these on eBay:  272654038430

They take a composite video to HDMI.  You can also find similar devices to take HDMI output and covert it to composite.

These include a wall-wart power cube so I don't have to get USB power from a device that probably doesn't have that available.

May help the mobile resolution? My HDR upconverts 640i to 1080P and it looks pretty good on a 60"

Short answer, Yes.
I have mine mated to a 7 inch digital TV from Prizm.
Works great and if I want I can route the audio through the TV  (I don't but if I want to hook to onboard entertainment system. It's not that hard but time consuming and you need to permanently mount the radio into the vehicle )

Happy Connecting. Sent from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S® 5 Sport

Doug -

Yes, but it is composite output and would not be compatible with any modern computer monitors without an adapter. However most HDTV's do have a composite input so that would be the best choice. That is generally the input that is Yellow - labeled composite.

Yes, The Icom HM-154T. I don’t remember what I paid for it anymore but it has a DTMF pad and up/down buttons.

Check your power connections.  Sounds like a voltage dip on transmission.  7000s are prone to shutting down if power source drop voltage on keying.

Have you checked groundings (rig, power supply and tuner)?

I had similar issue due to a poor grounding.

I added a keypad on the back of my microphone, and now have DTMF capability.  Pressing any button automatically keys the transmitter, with a 2-second timeout, allowing a series to be entered.  It works well for IRLP, etc.

Old HM-77 (looks like HM-103 but with CTCSS), HM-118TN, and HM-155. These only have CTCSS, not all the data control of the radio like an HM-151.
