All,

Thanks for the many suggestions!

1. I spent a good deal of time optimizing the display on the IC-7000, however I could not find a combination of color, contrast and brightness that worked.  The level of light from the sun simply overpowered the display.  I used the N1MM as my logging program and my PC was significantly easier to view than the transceiver.

2. Most suggestions related to use of a external monitor using the video output capabilities of the IC-7000.  This the approach i will try next.

3. Perhaps I can come up with a better location next year. Maybe something with 3 sides to block some of the sunlight.

Thanks again,

Robie - AJ4F

I hope this is a stupid question with a simple answer. My F1 F2 F3 and F4 buttons do not seem to be functioning. Did a factory reset and still nothing. Have read the manual back to front but still nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Hi all this is driving me nuts.
I I have the RTS software for the radio and I can’t get it to work with the ARRL repeater software I have tried downloading a image of the “a” bank and then using the ARRL software to create a route of no more than 96 repeaters to upload to the “A” bank what happens is the radio did it at first then it stopped doing it and now I cannot even go to the other banks.  It keeps looking for my KENWOOD radio is there any way that I may could have knocked out my memory templates in the radio?
Does anybody have advice?

thank you,

If you do use an external monitor be sure to have the monitor unplugged at the mains before plugging in to the radio video out.

I have seen one that was damaged from a voltage spike and took out the Logic board.

Set up an external monitor of appropriate size (maybe 7 to 14 inch diagonal {maximum}).  I use a 7 inch Sharper Image battery set that KB0XA used to make up a set of cables for direct connction to the 7000.  It's what I use in my Go-Box for Field Day.  Monitor MUST accept composite video.  An older analog TV would work just fine.

I'm quite sure that Don has quite doing these kits, though.

I always used an external monitor (7" was best resolution). I even used a larger monitor on field days so others could see it better. Good luck.....

Re: Ic-7000 separation kit

Yesterday I found out that the HRO store in NH had 6 in stock. Now they only have 5. Thanks for everyone's help.

Re: Ic-7000 separation kit

A Cat 5 cable has 8 wires while there are 10 pins for the connectors for the separation cable.

Consider connecting two separation cables in series.  The connectors are compatible.  In addition to the 1444 the normal cable is slightly shorter which might be useful if your desired length is less than 30 feet.

Re: Where is and how to replace the coin sized memory battery inside the IC-7000

Thanks everyone.

I think I understand now that the battery is for the clock more so than the memories. I don’t know if I want to replace it or not, the clock is not that important.

I did order it, it cost about $10 so when it arrives I may open up the radio and take a look. The advise of just cutting the leads and re-soldering seems the best so if I decided to do it at all that is the method I’ll use.

I did Google the part of course but the only place to order the ‘correct’ battery is from Icom. DigiKey and other radio stores did not have it. Some had never even heard of the radio having one. But good advise from Ray Novak lead me to the Icom parts store. Thanks Ray

Is this the "battery" you are asking for?
This is not a battery, but a rechargeable accumulator and it is located
in the Logic Unit.

False, there is a soldering battery inside.
