CI-V is a “one wire plus ground” simplex serial protocol using open collector/drain transmitter devices. They can be wire-ORed with no problem unlike normal RS-232/TTL level duplex serial.

Please report to group whether or not the Y connector works.

I don't think it will work. But the reason may have more to do with sharing a COM port, which does not work and requires the use of a virtual serial port.

I'm looking to use a Tarheel antenna with my ic-7000 and need an antenna controller. What I'd like, ideally, is a fully automatic controller that uses the radio's tuner button. I don't want separate control heads for the controller that I need to deal with.

The TurboTuner -2 fits the bill, but in addition to using the tuner connector on the radio, most also uses the CI-V port, which I'd prefer to keep free for rig control.

Is anyone aware of an automatic antenna controller that works off the radio's tuner controls but doesn't use the CI-V port?

Thanks,
Juliean

I don't plan to share a computer's serial port, so not sure it's an issue, but I'll report if and when I do this.  The unofficial IC-7000 faq that I found says this should work.  we'll see.

Re: [IC-7000] IC7000 remote

The IC-7000 has 2 separation cables available an 11' and a 16'.
The OPC-1444 is the 16 foot cable. Works well for me.

Yeah! Push the button on the right side and slide it to the left. You do have the separation cable, right?

Yes, it is a mono setup, tip and sleeve.

That’s my understanding… the handbook many years back had a RS-232 to CI-V interface that would support up to 3 rigs. The outputs were just paralleled for the three jacks.

Aha! That answers my alternate question of whether it's possible to connect two things to the CI-V port. Is just a regular stereo Y cable sufficient?

Re: Heil Handi Mic & the 7000

Charles & Sandra Cohen

If it's a Handi-Mic with an "iC" element, it should be plug-and-play.  Adjust MIC GAIN and COMPression as the manual suggests.

I suggest leaving the TX bandwidth on "WIDE".  There are reports of bad audio with narrow TX bandwidths, especially if the high-frequency limit is brought down from its maximum value. [That's an IC-7000 problem, not a Handi-Mic problem.]

If it's a Handi-Mic with a dynamic element (HC-4 or HC-5), Heil has a section of the website about that.  Basically, leave the COMPressor on (for extra gain), and adjust the MIC GAIN for proper ALC action.

I got a Heil Handi Mic and all the accoutrements for Christmas. I'm wondering if there are any tips, particularly with regard to radio settings, I should be aware of? Looking forward to getting on the air this weekend.
