Re: IC-7000 Won't transmit

Sounds exactly like the problem I had with my IC7000. All modes EXCEPT for SSB worked just fine. I sent it in to ICOM for repair. They found a the ALC ic to be bad. Cost me close to $200 for the fix including shipping charges.

To be sure, check to see if it works on the VHF/UHF bands in FM mode. CW & RTTY modes should also show full power output if the problem is the same that I had.

you some idea of the problem in the hope that you might be able to give me a

Other operating conditions:
LDG AT7000 autotuner (found to be working properly)
Buckmaster 300W 7-Band OCF dipole
SWR (according to the internal meter) <= 1 on all HF bands
OPEC 2M/440MHz dual band vertical antenna

SSB

I noticed that the ALC, Po, and COM meters were not moving when I tried to

transmit on SSB.

As I tried to adjust the mic gain according to the instructions in the manual I

found that there was no reading on the ALC meter and that adjusting the main

knob had no effect on the meter reading.

I was able to transmit on the 2M band but:
- The ALC reading went full scale into the red
- Attempts to adjust the ALC -- the ALC reading went full scale into the red when the PTT was activated and adjusting the main control know had no effect on the meter reading.
-The strength of my transmission signal grew weaker as the transmission progressed.

CW
My Elmer, and former owner of the radio, transmitted a carrier and found the peak output to be 5W.

I understand that you will be able to give a better assessment once you can test the radio but any preliminary thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: 10.7MHz IF Output?

Andrew

Hi All,

I am a 7000 owner also interested in an attachment for panoramic reception.

However, looking at the IC-7000 specs it seems that the 10.7MHz IF is used for WBFM only. My data sheet states that for all the other modes - SSB/CW/RTTY/NBFM - there are three IF's which are are 124.487MHz, 455kHz and 16.1kHz. The last two will be much too narrow for a panadaptor I suspect.

I am working on the assumption that the way to go with the IC-7000 is to use a fully tunable HF SDR - I have an SDR-IQ - and control it via software like Studio 1 plus OmniRig. Tune the 7000 and the SDR tracks along or tune the SDR and the 7000 tracks along. Also, because the 7000 lacks an aux antenna output this means something like the Elad RF/AF switch box if one wants to connect to the same antenna.

This approach does give quite a lot of extra flexibility over an IF panadaptor but with the SDR IQ does not provide for VHF/UHF reception.

I had that problem once after I moved the radio. It was due to the fact that
the face plate was loose, must have hit the release when I moved the radio.
Reseated it and the radio was fine after that.

back to me. That way I can hear how I sound on the radio. This can be
a very valuable tool.

I have read and reread the chapter on Voice Recorder Functions in the
manual. It seems that you can record a received transmission and are
only able to play it back, but not retransmit it. You can record your
voice through the microphone and transmit it. But it seems you cannot
retransmit received audio.

Am I missing something?
