Video out not working
B Johnson <kb7drn@...>
It would seem that it wasn't the TV, mono cable, or my soldering. Further testing with the TV and a portable DVD player ruled them out. Other devices play nicely together. The finger is now pointed toward my 7000. It doesn't seem to be producing a signal. The only thing that I can think is that at some point I might have plugged my computer into that port inadvertentently. That would just be a guess. Anyone ever had this sort of thing repaired? I guess I will be watching TV after all and not the display.

Re: SWR indicator
Robert <virtual81@...>
I had a similar issue, turned out to be blown PA that had somehow taken the SWR bridge with it.
The PA was replaced under warranty, but i received the unit back still with no working SWR meter. Back again and recived that would read <1.5:1 from 13MHz to 16MHz, and 1:1 over the entire 20m band so it was obvious i had discovered the secret to the dipole with magical bandwidth. Another few trips followed. On my 4th trip back to the warranty department they replaced the radio. Time has now passed and my 70cm PA is blown again, although that is offtopic regarding your problem. I'd suggest you try a few other antennas and loads and see if you can get any sense from the SWR meter. 73, Rob

Re: [IC-7000] SWR indicator
Luis Saavedra
Suspect the antenna first. Break the problem down. Remove the turbo tuner and Using an antenna analyzer first ensure the SWR is below 1.5:1 on all the frequencies AND all the bands you intend to use with your tarheel antenna, then install the turbo tuner and make sure it finds the correct spot in every frequency and all bands. The turbo tuner is not a coupler so if your antenna feedpoint is highly negatively reactive there is nothing it will be able to do to resonate it out. The input impedance at the antenna load in your situation can only be matched (cancelled) by the coil of your tarheel removing the excessive capacitive reactance from your short whip to create the required resonance.

I use the same setup and the swr meter will stay full scale until you get almost to the match and then it will drop off to zero or usually something less that 1.5:1.

Usually those tv's use a stereo or more cable, 1 video and one or two audio contacts. Yes I have seen a mini plug with a tip 2 rings and a ground ring. Try a stereo plug.

Last evening I made up a adapter cable for the IC-7000 and then connected it up with great success! It looks great as a large display for the IC-7000 and worked pretty well as a TV with the provided whip antenna. It came with a nice 90 degree Yellow/White/Red video audio cable that had female RCA sockets and I will use that for plugging things in on the fly. The second video input has a similar 90 degree cable that I had laying around and that is now connected through an adapter to the IC-7000 and will stay with the radio. It also came with a six inch F connector male/female pigtail that had a 90 degree bend on the male end that goes where the telescoping whip antenna goes. The telescoping whip is on top and unscrews, which is great, so that you don’t need to have it flopping around and getting damaged when your operational mode does not require it! Another very cool thing is that in addition to the stand that is provided, there is a ¼-20 stud hole in the bottom of the display which provides for some interesting mounting possibilities in a more compact manner than the included stand. As for the included stand, it is sturdy and has beveled holes for screws and can be adjusted for both height and angle for the best viewing. I am going to do a channel comparison with my 23 inch DTV, sometime soon, but that is going to be only for reference. DTV on the move is not going to be very good, so any TV use is going to be for situational awareness when fixed, if at all. Any ideas for an decent onmi-directional antenna that I can bolt to the roof of my truck? One final note, while 9 inch displays are not the ultimate in TV viewing, if you need a TV or monitor for a small space, or need to have multiple TV displays for situational awareness, this model is configured well to be used in a multiple mounting environment. The subtle difference between 7 and 9 inches, is enough to warrant the marginal increase in size and cost. For a bit over $100 delivered, it provides a good solution and all this sums up as a positive endorsement of this ATSC/NTSC TV/monitor! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
