After only owning this radio since November 4 I am not happy. Turned it on yesterday, it powered up briefly, shut down and will not turn back on.

I am not the only ham who has had some issues with Icom radios lately. A friend of mine bought a new IC 7600 and the first time he transmitted on it smoke came out of it. He shut it off, turned it back on and checked the output into a dummy load and there was no output.

He also had major issues with his Pro III.

I wonder, is Icom's quality level dropping? I have an Icom 735 that has been around for years, no problems with it.

I realize electronic parts can go bad, but after two months? Plus this radio was not always turned on as I use an Icom 718 for digital and do most of my operating with it.

Oh well, off it goes to the warranty depot :(

wow, Nice 9 inch.
I picked up a 7 inch DTV at the start of the hurricane season and I did try it with my 7K the only problem that I experianced was keeping the AV plug in place and setting up a nice location next to the 7K the next item was the TV was warm in comparison to my 7 inch stand alone monitor (THE SECOND SEAT DISPLAY)from a mobile DVD player that I picked up from geeks ,com..
The monitor is easier to place above or next to the 7k since it has a nice case and velcro straps, it ha RCA Vid and Audio inputs and it runs of 12V.

I just picked up an Axion AXN-8701 = 7" DVD player & TV, with 115/230V wall
wart, or supplied 12V cig plug & cable. It has flat panel, aux AV, &
rechargeable battery installed.

It has tilt stand, + female threaded 1/4-20 hole for tripod mount, or
permanent mounting. I'll hang with 25# fish line.

Best Buy $99.99 sale ends ~12-19.

I picked it up for my home security system, but it should work on my IC 7K.
So far just checked the TV.

ctualy the output is composit vidio and noy "VGA" some computer monitors that are VFGA had composit vidio inputs but most do not.
The best source of 7 inch monitors in the states was Target and Kmart with the 12 volt car display ($75.00 but they are getting scarce.
the latest source is the good old DVD player as most have external vid inputs and is you check out some od the clearence sites (geeks.com) many times you can pick up a mobile DVD player that has a second seat 7 inch monitor for less then $70 (I did) you can pick up some of the new digital 7 inch TV's but check that they have a external input and if yes you will have to make a RCA to 2.5mm adapter.

Glad I could help David. That's the neat part of groups like this. Usually someone has already had some experience with a particular issue and can help with the correct solution.

There is an easy way around that. Go to the Icom site and download
the manual in .pdf format. You now have an electronic, searchable
operator's maual. You can find every instance of what you're looking
for.

Good luck and 73zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hello Al: Thanks for the info. on the VSC function. Turned off
the VSC, as per page 82, and "voila" my problemw was gone! After months
of asking, and fruitless searching, joining the Yahoo group was suddenly
worthwhile! The indexing scheme in the manual, certainly leaves something to
be desired.

Hi All,

Just got my Christmas present from me to me a couple of days ago. I've been
using the 706IIG as a bicycle mobile for the last four or five years so I'm
slightly familiar with Icom's menu system.

I've been pushing buttons with reckless abandon and have ended up with a
couple of situations I can't reverse just by reading the manual.

First thing I noticed after a button pushing episode is that in USB mode the
receive audio cuts out as I tune across a strong station. After I took the
pre amp out it got a little better but it's still objectionable.

The other thing is that I can't change frequency on a band with the HM 151.
When I hit the up/down buttons I change bands.

I assume that a lot of your guys have moved from the 706. What features on
the 7K do you find the most valuable?

73,

Ron, W9XS

After you do the reset download the manual in pdf format

That was I think the best advice I ever got from this forum ,It makes doing
a search on any subject easier than the paper manual which agreed by many
others is often hard to find what you are looking for. Finger poking wont
work with the ic7000 it's a very complex piece of equipment and for me even
with years of radio behind me a big learning curve.
