The HF only 7000 would be worth looking into. Maybe the extra air inside would keep the smoke in.

I am beyond the problem now... Probably not worth fixing and the word is out in Asia a new radio soon to introduced. A 7000 with a full time band scope instead of the VHF,UHF capability... Maybe

But if I might, many including myself are successfully using the IC-7000 without problems. Service experience seems on a par with other transceivers.

This suggests two thoughts:

- a specific problem with your unit: perhaps a third party review (Bill?) might help here

- there is a service requirement of yours which is challenging to the transceiver

Anecdotes do not, however, make for service data in and of themselves.
