Vischer Ferry: Bitterns and Owls

David Halm

In case you haven’t heard yet there’s a family of Least Bitterns at Vischer Ferry. Head west on the towpath to the area of the first bench. Listen for the KAK-Kak-kak-kak-kak calls or scan the base of the cattails across the pond. Two young birds and two adults were seen there on Thursday and are still being reported today. (First seen last week by Rosemary Joslin.)

Also on Thursday, just past the second bench we saw a juvenile Great Horned Owl in a Willow tree. And two were seen in the same tree today!  (https://ebird.org/checklist/S116088721)
