Blue-winged Teal

marianne friers

Just as the sun was setting we found three American Wigeon and three Blue-winged Teal at the confluence of the Mohawk River and the Schoharie. Water is high and the rapids under the bridge raging. The teal were nibbling what appeared to be insects off the surface, floating down almost to Lock 12, then flying upstream again. They did this as long as we watched.
