We had 6 participants this morning for the HMBC Field Trip at Vischer Ferry Preserve. Best birds of the morning, in my opinion, were an American Coot along the west towpath and 4 Northern Pintails seen from the bridge at the Water Authority Rd. Other birds include a good variety of dabbling ducks: American Black Duck, Mallard, American Wigeon (at least 10), Green-winged Teal, Northern Pintail (already mentioned), and Wood Duck. All of the 6 common woodpeckers in this area were seen or heard: Downy, Hairy, Northern Flicker, Red-bellied, Pileated, and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. A few other species include Great Blue Heron, Cedar Waxwing, Winter Wren, Swamp Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, and American Tree Sparrow. We finished the morning with a final tally of 34 species.
