This week's destination: 11/17 and some notes

Naomi Lloyd

Hey Thursday birders! Tomorrow looks like as nice a day as we're likely to get in November, so I hate to waste it driving around - but everywhere is a swamp, so...? Let's try the Zim Smith Trail, starting from the Coons Crossing Rd trailhead off Rt 67 at 8:00am.,+New+York+12118/42.9194012,-73.7463742/@42.9197366,-73.7489185,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x89de1607e5f695e7:0x105b097864c20c3e!2m2!1d-73.7470608!2d42.9201791!1m0!3e0?hl=en&authuser=0

No Thursday group next week on Thanksgiving, of course. When we pick back up in December, we'll switch to winter hours and meet at 9:00am, allowing more time to clear the roads and our cars.

Nancy Kern spotted the first Short-eared Owl of the season on CR 21 in Schodack Landing last night - I know where I'll be tonight!

And remember Christmas Bird Count season is just a month away. Important dates:
Thursday 12/16 Saratoga count, Jean Holcomb
Saturday 12/18 Schenectady count, Larry Alden
Sunday 12/26 SoRensCo, yours truly
Sunday, 1/2 Troy count, Larry Alden

Check this page for updating info on count circles everywhere:

See you tomorrow!
