I walked outside this morning to a chorus of singing robins, and then heard the distinctive call of an Eastern Phoebe – my first of the season. Hopefully the phoebes will nest here again this year. I

At Hudson Crossing Park, we also saw a Great Blue Heron (FOY for me), Common Goldeneye, and Hooded Merganser. A probable Golden-Crowned Kinglet was heard but could not be located in a large evergreen

Northern Shrike, West Charlton
I was just looking outside, sipping my coffee, when a Northern Shrike flew into my yard, possibly in pursuit of a bird at the feeders, then perched in a nearby tree. With the sun shining, no leaves on

Maybe they are all the same birds, just traveling from one feeder to another… Funny that they are all showing up in the Capital Region today. Ellen

Flicker
I was surprised to find a Northern Flicker at my suet feeder today. Unfortunately, the feeder was empty at the time, so I went out later to refill it. I don’t think we’ve had any flickers in our yard

Kestrel sighting
I saw another American Kestrel today, perched on a wire on Charlton Road just east of the Charlton “hamlet.” Seems late, but ebird shows some December kestrel sightings in Saratoga County in the past.
