Raven
I spotted a dark bird soaring over the field across the street. Binoculars showed it was a Raven, a first for home.
Clear skies, Alan

Accipiter ID
Sharpie or Cooper’s? Either way it drew quite a crowd outside the Ballston Spa post office.

Hey Thursday birders! A miserable complex winter storm is headed our way, so we'll give this week a pass -- rain and just-above-freezing temps do not a happy birder make.
Long-range forecast looks

[OSBirds] A new avian and possibly human virus
I’m forwarding this from Andy Mason. I’ve seen this advisory on another site as well. Bottom line: Watch for any dead or distressed birds but handle with caution - or better yet not at all.

Re: Banded Sharpie
Hi Sean, this is a Merlin. The eyes are dark and the wings are far too long for an accipiter. Also the white tail bands are thin.

Banded Sharpie
I can't seem to escape Sharpies. Photographed a brazen little Sharpie yesterday on Eichybush Road in Stuyvesant. Such colors and patterns! If you zoom in, you can see one (very impressive) talon, but

Deer carcass = scavenger opportunity
There is a fresh deer carcass on the ice at the end of Flight Lock Road in Waterford. Attended an hour ago by a flock of crows, but it's worth watching to see who else shows up for dinner the next few

GHO in Troy
The 2 Great Horned Owls were hooting their duet again tonight outside my house (somewhere) just east of St Mary’s Cemetery in Troy around 8:15pm. I’ve heard them at least half a dozen times since
