Re: Possible Little Blue Heron
gregg_recer
now 2 immature little-blues present on the east side above the dam. greenish legs, heavy-ish bill with blue-grayish base grading into darker tip.
at 8:30 this morning none was in view here. I ran down to Cohoes briefly, and returning at about 10:00 Alison v-k was just leaving and had the birds along with a great blue for size comparison. I was able to get right on them the 2nd try. -- gregg recer malta NY

Re: Black-bellied Plover, Cohoes Flats- 8/9
zach schwartz-weinstein
I’ll post some photos of the BBPL to eBird later. It was an interesting-looking adult female (I think) that had lost most of its dark plumage. In addition to the BBPL this morning, I found a semipalmated plover and several least sandpipers. Yesterday a semipalmated sandpiper was present in a small flock of leasts, as were four lesser yellowlegs. Caspian Terns have been moving through the region over the last few days, and we should be on the lookout for Black Tern as well.
This morning Zach S-W and I observed a Black-bellied Plover fairly close to shore on the Cohoes side of the Flats. It later relocated to the far side of the water along Second Island, where it was foraging with Killdeer. It had a very pale head color, some retained black patches on the underside, and showed black 'armpits' during short flights. --

The juvenile stork came down to right in front of the fence and foraged for what ever was in that flooded area. Also a killer, great egret and a solitary sandpiper.

Naomi, Rich, et al, Would love to join you, as I'm back from a month at Marha's Vineyard, but the last week of that month was in the M.V. Hospital with an infected toe bone which I can walk on only for a limited
time and distance. The month of July was a month from hell with almost daily fog, cold temps especially at night, many rainy days, including a tropical storm (Elsa), rock cobble on the beach, a leaky roof which had to be replaced, and on and on. I hope former
Pres. Obama, who is there now, has much better weather! Hope to recover quickly enough to rejoin the group soon.

Nice! I haven't been to Nutten Hook in two years. The changes sound interesting. I think if we park in on an angle, we could get a dozen cars in at Swyer. People tend to park kind of sloppy. Naomi Naomi

Fall Migration in Troy
Heidi
Have seen evidence of fall migration the past few days:
In Oakwood Cemetery, 3 days in a row I’ve counted at least 21 KILLDEER all in Section S just inside the Oakwood Avenue entrance east of the pond. In my yard (near St Mary’s Cem) I’ve had several HUMMINGBIRDS fattening up with multiple feeder visits A large flock (est 2 dzn) of Common Grackles incl several juveniles And today had a juvenile ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK at the sunflower feeder. Also the RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH has returned. Heidi Klinowski Troy/Brunswick line

Sorry about that. My little finger hit some random key and a message was sent. Chris and I had a Great Egret today in the water under the bridge west of the old railroad station along the bike trail from Lion's Park in Niskayuna. A great blue heron was close by acting a bit territorial. Two green herons in the water near the railroad station. Cindy Edwardson Albany
