Re: Goose report

Sure.  The Tundra Bean-Goose was rediscovered at 8:45 Tuesday morning by Chris Carpist at the intersection of Routes 70 and 71 just east of Saratoga Lake with about 200 Canada Geese.  After it flew northwest it was rediscovered at Fish Creek Marina and remained there until around noon, when it flew off to the northeast.  It was not relocated after that.  Numerous cackling geese were seen, but not the Pink-Footed.

This week's destination: 3/18 - NOTE WINTER START TIME

Naomi Lloyd

Hey Thursday birders! Of course all the excitement is in Saratoga Co right now with a plethora of notable geese, but I'll leave you to do that wild Bean-goose chase on your own.
The Champlain Canalway trail is a bike/hike path running from Waterford to south of Mechanicville. It follows the old canal into ponded and marshy areas that should be opening up now, with scrubby to wooded habitat. Let's meet at the parking area off Brookwood Ave - cross the RR tracks and take the first driveway on the left leading to the Halfmoon water treatment plant. Pull into the parking lot on the right before the plant.

See you at 9:00am - looks like we can get some birding in before the afternoon drizzle starts. And happy goosing!

(no, I don't know why the dropped point says Waterford-Halfmoon Free School District!)

lbb gull - Saratoga lake

while I understand the bean goose chase is top priority at the moment, just thought I'd mention an adult lesser bb gull hanging out with the group of mostly ring-bills on the ice shelf just south of the 9P bridge. good view from the marina parking across the way.

Goose update

Lindsey Duval <lindsey.duval@...>

I'm just now leaving the Marine Boat Launch at Saratoga Lake and no other birders are present. I stayed from about noon until 5:50 pm and the Bean Goose has sadly been a no show up to this point. There was a small group of Canadas on the shore by the trailer park but not much Goose movement in or out of the site all afternoon.

Pink-footed Goose and Golden Eagle at Wrights Loop South at 2:28 pm today.

Scott Varney

Stopped by to Wrights Loop (south entrance) after work and found the Pink-footed Goose in a line of geese closest to the road...sheer luck with only my bins in the car and no scope.  Great views until a Golden Eagle flew overhead and all birds left the field to take refuge on the river...hoping they come back!

No sign of the Bean-Goose yet this morning, but Jay McGowan found a Pink-Footed Goose at the southern end of Wright’s Loop in Stillwater (a county first for Saratoga.). Jay also found a Cackling Goose north of the bridge in Stillwater.
