First Field Sparrow in Austerlitz

Weird but great start to Easter Sunday at home today. Woke up to the song of the first Field Sparrow of the year just outside my window in the field. In the front yard, in the sun, was a magnificent tom turkey displaying to 2 unimpressed hens. All chased out by a group of feeding deer. I love living in the country!

Stay well and Happy Birding-

This morning brought several ruby crowns and their urgent accelerating song, a few golden crowns and for a change of pace a raven squawking at a crow that was trying to send it back to Thatcher Park.
Hang in there everyone.

Golden-crowned Kinglets

Cynthia Edwardson

Yesterday late afternoon, my husband and I were birding in  Elm Avenue Town Park in Delmar and we heard and then saw a flock of at least 15 Golden-crowned Kinglets behind the Time-Warner baseball field, Line Drive entrance.  The birds were moving through the tops of some conifers and  so they have likely moved on.
We also saw our FOY Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and Eastern Towhee in a different part of the Park.

First Ruby-crowned Kinglet

ConserveBirds

Took a quick look to see how hard it was raining and noticed some movement in one of the backyard shrubs – the first Ruby-crowned Kinglet of the year.  Nice to see on this gray day.

Still seeing a few Juncos passing thru.

Vesper Sparrows, waterfowl in RensCo

Naomi Lloyd

In my local ramble today, I found singing Vesper Sparrows on American Oil Rd, and a flock of displaying Wild Turkeys.
Ospreys are back on their nest at Schodack Island SP.
Nassau Lake had a few assorted Scaup, Buffleheads, one Ruddy Duck and two Horned Grebes in breeding plumage.

EBird can tell you scientifically, I guess.  But...they returned through Collins Lake, Scotia early last month...

Looking forward to warblers.

Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers are back in my neck of the woods.   The morning chorus today included multiple sapsuckers drumming and calling, as well as vocal Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, Northern Flicker, Carolina Wren, Eastern Phoebe, Song Sparrow, and Northern Cardinal, to name a few.  Still no kinglets – last year I didn’t see them until late April.

Woodcock bonanza in Salem

Scott Varney

Every other weekend, my sister Heidi and I walk the 4 mile loop from my house in Salem, up Riley Hill Road to Blind Buck Road then to East Broadway, and then back to my house. This weekend, there were a plethora of Woodcock....lots of "Peents". It seems we always find some amazing natural gems along Riley Hill Road in every season. This time the Woodcocks. Last Summer it was a firefly fireworks show that was better than the Disney performance!  On several occasions, it has been the symphony of local Coyotes that has captivated us. Gotta love Washington County!
