We think we've figured out this Sandpiper. See what you think.

I'm at Wrights Loop with John Hershey, Alan Mapes and Nancy Kern's. We are looking at a pale buffy colored sandpiper, slightly smaller than a lesser yellow leg , erect stance, slender elongated looking. Looks most like a ruff. Alan and John have pictures

Red Crossbills, Albany Pine Bush Preserve- 5/2

During a bird survey this afternoon, I watched 8 Red Crossbills fly into the top of a tree oak to forage. They remained for about twenty minutes and then flew off towards the power line cut in the Madison Avenue Pinelands. Six males, two female/juvenile-type plumage. Gave a "jip-jip-jip-jip" vocalization in flight, and various trills, warbles, and buzzes while foraging.

Can't stay as long as I want now, but water and particularly mud is crawling with peeps, spotteds, solitaries, pectoral, yellowlegs etc. bald eagles present. Gotta come back later

eBird -- Five Rivers EEC -- May 1, 2017

zach schwartz-weinstein

Highlights from early morning walk at 5 rivers include my FOY redstart (between the goose and sunfish ponds) and Northern Waterthrush (wood duck marsh.). The ruffed grouse flushed from the north leg of the service road. Only the second time I've seen one at five rivers, I think. Blue-winged Warbler numbers were up noticeably. Three solitary sandpipers were hanging out on the same small patch of sand in the beaver pond, making a mockery of their common name.

Re: Eastern Towhee Female

That reminds me. I was entertained by an Eastern Towhee calling on yesterday morning's walk. Haven't seen one in the yard yet.
