Went to check out the heron rookery north of Ballston Lake today. Counted
17 nests, most with herons on them, and three or four with young visible in
the nest. Spectacular sight.

Also at Five Rivers on Saturday, saw or heard: blue-winged warbler, field
sparrow, least flycatcher, bluebird, bobolink, great-crested flycatcher,
ruby-throated hummingbird, yellow warbler, oriole, peewee, red-eyed vireo,
chipping sparrow, song sparrow, white-crowned sparrow, white-throated
sparrow, oriole, kingfisher, turkey, red- and white-breasted nuthatch,
red-tailed hawk, solitary sandpiper, pileated woodpecker, downy woodpecker,
hairy woodpecker, wood thrush, common yellowthroat, phoebe, tree swallow,
rough-winged swallow, brown thrasher, yellow-rumped warbler, goldfinch.
