Strange Grid Squares

Something strange is going on.

If I click on some stations in the DX Spot window everything works as it should, except that for many stations the grid square RE89ex is filled in automatically in the logging window!  Now I know that FT8WW, YT3D and W1AW/7 to name a few, are definitely NOT down there with Gary in ZL!

This happens in CW and SSB modes.  Not a problem in JTDX when most stations send their grid.

What am I missing?

Have you tried reloading/updating the LoTW/OQRS users database? This database contains > 66K users gridsquares. It could be stuck on RE89ex. SeventyThree(s).

I think that while we are logging QSOs with them, Logger32 determines the stations’ locators by working down the following list and using the first available source:
  1. Locators we have input into the log entry pane (if we are using the Locator field);
  2. Their FT8/FT4 CQ messages;
  3. Callsign lookups e.g. LoTW/OQRS users, HamQTH.com, QRZ.com ...;
  4. Previously-logged QSOs with those stations (note: locators provided in LoTW confirmations can be captured into the log during log-LoTW synchronisation).
If no locator is available, Logger32 uses the centre of the applicable administrative area (DXCC entity/country, county etc.?) to calculate the approximate range and bearing ... but I don't think it fabricates locators.

Reloading the LoTW database and removing all those "phony" grids from my log seems to than cured the problem.

Thanks Bob.
