Hi guys any gurus can give me some advice, lost my hard drive and I did have backups of user files and the Main log. I got everything up and running on windows 64 bit. Reinstalled logger 32 version 4 did all respective updates etc, imported backup files and got all up and running log restored did a rebuild ok, then shut down log and reopened logger 32 all ok. Imported user files and other files after closing logger and again rebooted, the Logger32 loads up all the way to a point where I see on the screen attempting to clean up restore points and then closes logger32. I can restart logger but the same thing happens again Thank you Bob first time I’ve had mega problems Ron G6GA

I suspect the key is 'imported user files and other files' ...
Is this the original PC (the one that had a HDD problem), or an entirely different PC? Is it possible that 'one of the user files' is an .INI file that points to some non existent location on the new PC? SeventyThree(s).

... if this is a different PC, there are some users who have experienced Logger32 just disappearing off the screen (with an accompanying cloud of smoke and a distinct smell of sulfur in the air). The cure was to set Logger32 to run with Win 7 compatibility mode turned on. SeventyThree(s).

Yes it’s the original pc Bob and the original backups but for one thing, the latest backups would not work at so I went back to user files and backups from earlier shutdowns, close the program and backups auto.

OK, original PC. but it's still possible that a file or a utility that used to start automatically is now AWOL. Try the trick (repeated thousands of times on this reflector) of temporarily renaming the Logger32.INI file and seeing if it will start now.
Exactly what do you see when Loger32 crashes? Is the initial splash screen visible? What does it say is happening. SeventyThree(s).

The picture is very helpful, but no description of exactly what a 'crash' is. Unless advised otherwise, I'll assume the Logge32 windows simply disappear from the screen.
The picture shows that Logger32 is deleting old files. To explain, Logger32 keeps only the last 10 updates in folders called \Updatefiles for Ver 4.0.xxx. If you look in the \Logger32 directory you will see something like this:
See the 10 of them lined up in a row there? How many do you see? SeventyThree(s).

Morning Bob, I have 10 files in my Logger just the same as in your pic.
I renamed the first one so I had 9 files in the directory and tried to start Logger32 and exactly
the same failure as in the picture I sent to you, that said Trim number of Rollback files, that appears for about 3 seconds
and then the program shuts down and reverts me back to the desktop screen .

This is bizarre, the code is simple and appears to function without error for others. I'm wondering if we have a conflict between the various security settings on your PC and Logger32 reading/writing to files and the windows registry ...
Have you changed anything on your PC lately? Any new anti-virus software or settings changed?
Check this for me please ... Open the Logger32.INI file with Notepad. Find the line [Globals]. Somewhere below that line you will find a line Enable Error Trapping=xxxxx. xxxxx maybe True or False. If it is False, change the line to be Enable Error Trapping=True and save the change. Maybe when you start Logger32 now you will get one of those ubiquitous The sky is falling messages.
If this fails to shed any light on the problem, I will need to send you some test software to try to isolate the problem. Do you have a secure dropbox I can use to send you files (if so, don't post the URL here :)?

If you manually added the line to the .INI, it must be added after the [Globals] line. I'd recommend immediately after [Globals].
I'll work on some test code and figure out how to get it to you by direct eMail. 73.

Check this for me please ... Open the Logger32.INI file with Notepad. Find the line [Globals]. Somewhere below that line you will find a line Enable Error Trapping=xxxxx. xxxxx maybe True or False. Ah! What is your UAC setting? I'm not recommending any Windows setting, it's your PC, not mine. Search for Win 10 UAC.
On Win 10 there are 4 settings - from always notify me (the highest security setting) to Never notify (the lowest security setting). Mine is set to Never notify.

I have exactly the same problem. It started today. I last used the PC (Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, fully updated) and Logger 32 on Sunday last. This morning I switch on and after boot-up, clicked on Logger32. It loaded normally until 'Trim number of rollback files' at which point it hangs for a moment then just disappears. I have tried all your recommendations for Ron and nothing has worked for me either, so far. My PC has been untouched from shutdown on Sunday until this morning. I have changed nothing, unless something updated itself during bootup this morning. As that would most likely be my anti-virus, I have tried running Logger32 with anti-virus disabled, with no change. My UAC is set to 'never notify'. I have been running Logger32 in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Turning this off made no difference. 73s Nick EA7JXH

All now updated and running ok. Next job is to reinstall my software , program at a time and check Logger 32 loads and runs ok Thanks Bob and hope things go well for you also Nick 73 Ron G6GA
