Enhancement suggestions

Having recently switched over from XMLOG to Logger, I miss the
ability to get "voice" spots via the program. It's helpful to be working around the shack and hear all the spots verbally instead of having to look at the computer screen. The XMLOG software did this rather nicely. Any chance this could be looked at for a future release. Also, it would be nice to also be able to click on a spot from within the packet window in order to QSY my TS-850S/AT. Just a couple of quick ideas that I miss since switching over (not that I have any intention of going back...) 73, Steve - K2SC |

Steve you can turn off the "Packet Cluster Window" after you're connected.

You will notice in the upper right corner that the "DX Cluster" window contains the spots. If you click on the spot you want the rig WILL QSY to the appropriate frequency and, if set up correctly, the appropriate mode. I usually have the Packet Cluster Window off and the DATA port open looking at RTTY etc. 73, Rick VE7ASR -----Original Message-----

Thanks for the reply. To clarify however, there's a small "DX Cluster"
window (upper right) and then the "Packet Cluster" window. If I sit down in the shack, turn on the 2m rig & tnc and then connect to the local cluster there are NO spots in the "DX Cluster" window (yet). So I type SH/DX in the "Packet Cluster" window to find out what the last few spots have been while my packet gear was offline. In the XMLOG soft- ware I was able to click in this window and QSY the radio too. I was just curious if it could be done in LOGGER or not. I guess not !!! It's really not a big deal to have to MANUALLY tune the rig for those first few spots until the "DX Cluster" window starts listing the spots. Did I understand that you don't even need to be connected for the "DX Cluster" window to fill up with spots? BUT that window only receives data for DX spots that occur AFTER you have connected. So a Show/DX won't be of much help in that case. Stay connected for a while or send a DX spot as a test and see what happens. Yes Logger will pick up the packets and post them even if not connected BUT unless you have a great path (I don't) it's risky since you're never sure if ALL the packets are being received. 73, Rick VE7ASR -----Original Message-----

Yes, you definitely do not have to be connected to get spots in
the small window. Am trying to get Bob to extend the filter capability to the Cluster window also. Remember, any filters you set for packet are ONLY applicable to the small window. BTW, Bob told me yesterday that he expects to release the first version of Zanakaka ( or however it's spelled ) by the end of the week. 73 Ed |

The packet code is set to look at the next spot which appears and see if it is substantially equal to the last one. For example, let's say you are monitoring a cluster with 20 people connected. I put out a spot. That spot is then sent to the other 19 connections by the cluster. So, in essense, you have in this example 19 chances of getting the spot. Just imagine the first 5 or so are missing some iformation. Since they do not represent the proper protocal for packet, they are ignored. Let's say #8 comes through OK. You will see it displayed, and of course , #9 through ? are ignored. Of course, the odds of your getting the packet under marginal conditions are a function of the number of individuals connected to the node. 73 Ed |
