CW Machine timing delay
I'm struggling with CW paddle timing when CW Machine is engaged. I'm using a K1EL WinKeyer USB set up as WinKey2 in the CW Machine. When I send by hand, I'm missing final dits. When CW Machine is off, my sending is smooth and my timing works. My timing works when I'm using the K1EL standalone or when I'm using N1MM+ with the WinKey or just sending directly through my K3 radio. Switch back to the CW Machine and I'm missing final dits. If I deliberately hold the paddle longer, the dits play. Close the CW Machine and my timing is fine. This is driving me nuts, grin. This is not a common problem, I'm sure. I must have a setting wrong somewhere, but after reviewing the manual several times and playing with CW Machine config items, I don't know what I've done wrong. I'm missing something important.I've included an image of my CW Machine Configuration. Thanks for any help!NU6T--Richard Hill

I have a slightly similar problem except that my problem is the
leading character on TX is truncated. I am running an SDR and
use the CW machine in "software" mode, so I have very limited
choice in setup. I have tried to play with the PTT settings and
breakin settings in the rig but it doesnt seem to make any
difference. If I slow the keyer down to 25wpm or less it seems
OK, so obviously there is a slight timing problem, but dont know
how to fix it. My PC is a i7 processor with 16Gb RAM and running
windows 10 and Logger 32. I run Software Defined Connectors 64
bit which ha as part of the suite a routine called TCI
(Transceiver Computer Interface). This handles the PTT and audio
(for digi modes) automatically. SDC also has an inbuilt MACRO
server. If I use that, instead of the CW machine, the CW is
perfect. Not that I am promoting it but SDC has an inbuilt
skimmer with 599 facility which allowed my to work Bouvet on
second call, also has a contest mode and other assorted
goodies......

Tom, GM4FDM, thanks for the suggestion. I adjusted PTT Tail Delay from zero to max in 50 ms jumps, but no joy. I also, just because, adjusted PTT Lead Delay in the same jumps and found no change as expected.
The timing remains off when using CW Machine and as expected without the CW Machine. I need to hold the dit paddle longer with the CW Machine than is needed with N1MM+, K1EL WinKeyer USB standalone or when operating directly from my K3.
I have a new desktop computer, but had the same issues with my laptop. It seems I'm doing something wrong somewhere but have not been able to understand the problem or cure it.
Thanks,

First I've heard of it. How are you turning the radio PTT on, by radio command or serial port? Have you tried temporarily modifying your macros (for example) from "CQ" to "*CQ" or even " CQ"? SeventyThree(s).On 03/09/2023 2:35 PM Tom Wylie <thomasgwylie@...> wrote:

Hi Bob, well if you dont want to know about TCI i cant really explain. If you are interested you need to google Yuri UT4LW. On his web page at www.lw-sdc.com. SDC = Software Defined Connectors.
Yuri has written a suite of software which includes TCI - transmitter control interface. Basically this connects anything to anything. I run this software between my sdr and my logger - logger32. If an associated program has the tci protocol embedded there is not need for com ports or ptt, its all taken care of on the fly. However, logger32 does not include the tci protocol and so i have to run a seperate piece of software ( which is included with the software for my sdr) called radiosync. This allows me to set up a com port to communicate with logger 32. It handles CAT and PTT etc. It allows seamless logging of QSOs in digi and rtty etc.
For contesting i run seperate software which has TCI control and which outputs an ADIF which i import into my station logger - logger32.
At speeds up to about 25wpm the cw machine in logger32 is fine and i use it a lot to send free typing cw as well as the presets, however at speeds above 25wpm it randomly misses a character in the first letter of my call. I do not have a winkeyer and have set up cw machine under the software tab, using the radio com port
SDC has many inclusive features including a macro server which can be programmed for cw, ssb and rtty. This sends beautiful cw via the tci protocol.
I know you are really only interested in your own software and i cant criticize you for that, but at least have a look at SDC/TCI you might just find it interesting.

I'm missing something important.
I've included an image of my CW Machine Configuration.
Thanks for any help!
