Anyone using FT4 and having ADI input Problems?

Jim Fey

I have been using L32 for quite some time and just updated this morning to ver. 395

Whenever I am trying to import and ADI File from my Radio logging computer to L32 all my FT4 bounce to “BAD.adi” with invalid MODE Statement:

Error in the MODE field:  <Call:5>XXXXX<QSO_Date:8>20190910<Time_On:6>224331<Time_Off:6>224400<Band:3>20M<Comment:25>FT4  Sent: +10  Rcvd: -05<Cont:2>NA<Country:3>USA<DXCC:3>291<CQz:2>03<Freq:9>14.081407<Gridsquare:4>CN73<My_Gridsquare:6>DN27NO<ITUz:2>06<Mode:3>FT4<N3FJP_ModeContest:3>DIG<OPERATOR:5>KO6UW<TX_PWR:3>100<Pfx:2>N7<QSL_Sent:1>N<QSL_Rcvd:1>N<RST_Sent:3>+10<RST_Rcvd:3>-05<N3FJP_SPCNum:3>USA<eor>

_._,_._,

I am using the  File: Import ADI: process like I do for my FT8 contacts which come right in, but the FT4’s bounce.

Since I live in Montana a number of other Hams are waiting for these contacts on LoTW.

Any help would be Greatly Appreciated

Logger32 is my logging computer and I run WSJT is updated L32 yesterday. All my FT4 qsos seem to be going in fine and also uploading to LOTW. All I had to do was go into Logger and add F T4 to the bands/modes fil. As I dont use PSK i just edited PSK to FT4 as the frequency slot was already 14080

Are you using a different software than Logger 32 for logging?? Maybe its something in that sofware when it creates the ADIF File that needs sorting

Hi Jim..

The issue lies with the N3FJP logger. It is not ADIF compliant. When it exports the ADIF file all of FT4 contacts it needs to be exported using <MODE:4>MFSK <SUBMODE:3>FT4. That was changed in the ADIF specification about 6 months ago. For a Commercial product you would think they would have adopted the correct format already.

You can change things with a text editor just do a Find & Replace using find: <Mode:3>FT4 and set the replace to <MODE:4>MFSK <SUBMODE:3>FT4

Once they are changed you can reimport them.

Actually I may have caused the problem myself.  When the original N3FJP program received the contacts by ADIF file , it used MFSK as the mode.  I thought this was wrong as all my FT8 contacts used FT8 as the mode.  So I manually changed them to FT4, and then exported them.

If I would have just left them alone, then chances are there would not have been a problem.

Rick,  Thanks for your help and explanation.  I now have the contacts loaded into L32 and LoTW just fine.
