Rotator bearing question

John T. Blair

Logger32 & rotator bearing settings.

I'm a little confused.  There are 2 status bars on the bottom of the window.  The top row shows country, it's its needed, sun rise/set, 2 bearings and a distance, and finally a date & time.

I believe the 2 bearings and a distance, are long and short path to the station you've put in the "logbook entry window".

If I assume this is correct and I put a station in the Call window in the "logbook entry window" like MW0JKU,
the bearing shows 312/132 3859 mi.

I'm located in Virginia Beach Va.  According to Google maps my position is
     Lat: 36.80530027931284,   Long:  -76.17070794340644

I'm using a windows 7 OS on a Dell desktop.  I've put those into logger by right clicking on the "Call" input box,
and selecting "Setup" on the drop down menu, and select "My QTH Lat/Long and enter the decimal lat & long. and select the "Apply" button.

Now if I look at the bearing on the top of the bottom 2 bars it says:  312/132 3859 mi

I have an gut feeling that that isn't correct as due ease of me (I think is about 90deg) is Cordoba, Spain.

So Wales should be something less than 90deg.

If I go to QRZ.COM and input MW0JKU's call, and select the Detail tab, it says the bearing is 48deg.
That sounds a LOT better.

So what am I doing wrong in Logger32?

Anybody have any ideas of  things I should try?

Thanks.  But I don't see what you're saying.

QRZ shows my location:
       Latitude        36.805002
       Longitude     -76.171345

Google Maps shows my location:
       Lat              36.80496
       Long          - 76.17006

and Logger 32 is showing:
       Lat              36.805002
       Long          - 76.171345

So isn't that correct?  I'm North of the Equator, so the +36 is about right and I'm
West of the prime meridian, so the - 76 should be about right

NO?

I repeat. Logger32 wants your lat/long in the following format -- North and West are +ve. SeventyThree(s).

Here's what I'm talking about.  I've attached pictures:

1. The main Logger32 screen showing the beam bearing to the station I'm working

2. The page showing that I've set the lat & Long to my qth

Tnx agn

Immediately to the right of where you entered -76 as your longitude it clearly says that North is entered as a positive number. You are North, so please enter a positive number. Change -76 to 76.

QRZ and Google are technically correct, internationally speaking. However, L32 specifically states to use +ve longitude for West instead of the standard "-ve" used by everyone else.
I think the reasoning is that "most" users are in North America, and it is easier to simply put in the LAT and LONG numbers without a sign, meaning the program expects positive numbers. There may be some other program issues Bob has run into and it may be simpler for him to use the method he chose.
Anyway, it is displayed clearly in the setup of LAT/LONG to put positive values for West, not what other sites/programs say.

Bob,

Fantastic!!!!  That did it.  Sorry I was so hard headed and didn't follow what you were saying.  Thank you for your patience!

To my defense, I trusted Google Maps and QRZ

I don't understand why the difference in the "+/-" sign required by Logger32 and
those of the standards Google maps and QRZ.  Sounds to me like there is a
math error on the calculation in Logger32.  But what do I know.

Thanks again!
