Country ID window
Thanks John. I'll gladly explore the idea of an index, although on past experience, I doubt it will work out. The last time I tried creating a book index in MS Word (about a decade ago), the automated indexing function indexed a lot of irrelevant terms, requiring a lot of painstaking work to trim it down to a more sensible list. As I recall, MS Word also struggled to manage/update the trimmed index list. Maybe things have moved on since then. Meanwhile, I've made some changes in the area of floating callsigns that will surface soon after the next Logger32 update. I really appreciate feedback about the manual. Plaudits are nice but criticisms and improvement suggestions are gold! Everyone, please don't be shy: if you see something not quite right, opportunities to put things better, or struggle to find stuff, just drop me a line or raise it here on the reflector. This is a community project. I'm just a scribe. On Wed, 16 Nov 2022 at 17:42, John T. Blair <jblair1948@...> wrote:

This program has so much in it, it's hard to find answers to things especially when you can't remember what the help file calls it. I remembered something about a hidden file or something like that. I didn't remember the "floating callsign" name. I knew it displayed the country ID for a call sign prefix so most of my searches in both the forum and the help files were some form of that. >Although the manual will never be perfect, the original 3.50 help system was even >worse. Maybe an index in the back of the manual would help? But I don't know if that would have helped me. Although if I saw call sign, I could look up each of the pages listed for that word, and maybe have found it. But this is a problem with anything complicated. Not to mention, once you get things set up, how often do you have to go back and redo them. So you'll forget what it's called or how you set it up. I have an IC-718 for an HF rig, and I don't begin to know how to use all of it's features. The menus are killer. And then my yeasu _FTM-3100R 2mtr rig is even worse. I'm old and like the older simpler things. :) Like my Drake TR-3 and Heath SB-102. 73s John John T. Blair WA4OHZ email:

I'm glad you found it, John, and a little disappointed that it didn't show up in the manual using whatever search terms you initially used. I'll take another look at the wording to see if we can describe it any better. Although the manual will never be perfect, the original 3.50 help system was even worse. Unless you knew/guessed the exact phrases used to describe things, the search function was tedious at best - more miss than hit. Worse still, the document structure was, um, eclectic and many of the internal hyperlinks were broken, so browsing around for answers was frustrating too. I get a kick any time someone answers a post here on the forum with 'See section X in the manual', and I'm always happy to take criticisms and improvement suggestions - on here or privately, no matter. Put the focus on the callsign field of the logbook entry window and type Ctrl+F. Or right click the mouse on the callsign field of the logbook entry window and click Floating callsign field. SeventyThree(s).

I found it! In the "logbook entry window", using a windows based OS,
1. Place your cursor in the "Call" input window, 2. Right click - will bring up a drop down window 3. Click on the "Floating callsign field" 4. Enter a call sign prefix or full call sign, and the country will be identified. ie. PY4 will display "PY Brazil" Possible search words (to help others searching for info on this in the future): "country ID" "callsign prefix" "floating window" -- JohnT WA4OHZ Virginia Beach, VA |

I'm pretty sure I've asked this question before, I've searched the help file, and the posts in this forum, but I can't find any post on the subject. Probably because I don't know what to call it.
There is a pop up window showing the country name when you input a call sign (complete or just the prefix). For some reason it stopped popping up. How do I get it to come up again. In the back of my mind it was called a hidden or something window. Look forward to getting an answer. TIA -- JohnT WA4OHZ Virginia Beach, VA |
