Floating point error

Ian Morrison

As I understand the problem, Windows 11 will not shutdown if Logger32 is running.  That is true,  it complains and gives the opportunity to “shutdown  anyway” or cancel. This is a Windows issue, trying to protect us from dumb moves that may cause us to lose data. I don’t understand why you don’t see the warning  though.

Unfortunately if like me you run your station remotely from 3000K miles away its not always easy to fix a computer issue, so if I find a bug like this my preference is to fix it. I suspect as time goes on and more people are  forced to migrate to WIN11 other things like this will come up.

Agreed, Further, I am a "belt and suspenders* " kind of guy.

I don't trust just "pulling the plug" on a program. I also extend that to not allowing Windows to be in charge of making certain that Logger32 wasn't still in the middle of doing something important when Windows pulled the rug out from under it.

I'd rather spend the extra time shutting down the program manually than having to chase down data corruption or other obscure issues.

FWIW, so far only one of the Win 11 Beta testers have a similar error on closing Win 11 while Logger32 is running. In this case the error is 'unknown software error'. Gotta love these intuitive error messages. SeventyThree(s).

I guess the Win 10 equivalent is START | SHUT DOWN OR SIGN OUT | SHUT DOWN. Works as expected for me. No errors. SeventyThree(s).

And what leads you to suspect Logger32 is the culprit? Also, be specific, how do you close the PC (there are several ways to turn your PC off)? SeventyThree(s).

I don't normally shut down without closing all my programs, but testing that on my bleeding edge Windows 11 beta machine, i see no problem. It pauses a moment while shutting down L32 with a couple messages about waiting for L32 to quit (probably the delay is L32 making its closing backup), but no errors and no problem.
