Jim, THANKS,  that worked great for logger 32.   Any idea on to make it work on N1MM?

I am trying to fully link Logger 32 with my Flex 6600M.   I have it reading the frequency and mode and linked to FT8.   However, I can't seem to find the right combination to use the CW machine,   Currently it lights the power and mox buttons just like when I use my paddles.  However it is not going into transmit and I can still hear the receive.   If anyone has linked CW through Logger32 and/or N1MM to the 6600M please share your configuration and settings.    Thanks

No, it is not the font. In my INI I changed the Grid Font to Bitstream Vera Sans Mono (which is not on my PC). When Load Logger32, I see this:

Strange problems just like this are why the manual now says that if you choose to restore the .INI files from the old installation’s C:\Logger32\ folder to the new one, instead of manually recreating your configuration as recommended, you may have to “generally mess around with things until you get it working satisfactorily, dealing with various challenges along the way.  Sorry to be so vague here but it’s hard to know what might come up.  You’ve chosen a shorter but rockier path.”

It might be handy if there were automated integrity checks built-in to the software that verified the old configuration thoroughly when updating, identifying and resolving any config issues without bothering the user.  Unfortunately, as configurations have become lengthy and convoluted, those checks would be difficult to specify properly and complex to code effectively, making the integrity checks themselves error-prone … and so taking us right back to square 1!

PS  The same issue affects some other software such as JTDX: the official advice with JTDX is to wipe and manually recreate the entire configuration at every program update, a laborious, tedious process and a crude way but effective to deal with any invalid/inappropriate settings in the original configuration that may cause odd behaviour after an upgrade.  Personally, since I am using numerous beta versions as well as the public releases, I can’t be bothered do that every single time, only if I notice strangeness with a new version (which, thankfully, is rare).   [As it happens, I do have a little config problem with the current beta: the 60 and 6m entries are mis-aligned in the band selector, with extra zeroes shown on those bands … maybe it’s time for me to scrap and rebuild my JTDX configuration!]

If you want Logger32 to start utility programs minimized, add /MIN to the end of the command string. Like c:\blah/blah/blah.exe /min

The ADIFBands.txt and ADIFModes.txt files are no longer overwritten when auto-updating, or when doing a full install. These files are now included when doing a backup of user files, and are automatically saved in the \rollback directory of an auto-update.

Re: Porting Logger32 from old PC to new PC

IZ5ILJ Lenio

Ciao Bob, tnx for your attention.

I try to explain myself better, in my uncertain English, describing point by point what I am doing.

I think I did everything right, in fact first I did a new installation of Logger32, then I installed L32Logssync, then L32Lookups, then the fonts that are not by default and that are in the ini files of Logger32 and radiocontrolpanel.

I started Logger32 with the new installation and everything works perfectly when I copy the old folder to the new PC at startup it happens that after starting the radiocontrol panel, in starting something else I can't see why it appears for only a few moments the program stops and closes after a few seconds.

This is what happens. It is not the first time that I move Logger32 to a new HD and always, doing as described, everything worked perfectly, only this time I just can't get over the situation.

Not a big deal that I will have to set everything up again but it would have been a lot easier to be able to import everything from the old installation.

The O.S. is Windows 10 64 bit updated to yesterday.

Well done Peter, glad to hear it worked out.

Thank you also for that mental picture of you leaping triumphantly out of the bath, clutching a soapy laptop, shouting EUREKA!!

Hello Bob,

Me again. In the meantime 2 Gentlemen (sorry, I deleted their emails by mistake) came up and made some additional advise.

Well, I deleted all 5 of those files, started Logger32 without problems, 3 files were produced, made the rest with Club Log and ... EUREKA! I'm back to business. Thanks a lot to you and those 2 fellows.

Hello Bob,

Tnx a lot for your quick answer. Trying to follow your advise I found out that I don't have 3 or 4 of those files but 5 (five). Look here ...

This is the same for all those isd, isf, isl, ism and isx files. Its always a chain of 5 (five). Therefore ... Before I take any action the question whether or not your advise "delete them all" is still the same? TIA!

Peter, your Zone Exceptions database has crashed. Look in the Logger32 directory for these three files:

I is possible you have four files. Delete them all. Start Logger32. It will create new/empty files. Load the Club Log Exceptions file, and the data will be entered into the new files. Ja alles gut? SeventyThree(s).

Hello,

I need some help. Since yesterday evening I'm unable to start Logger32. Whenever I click on the Desktop icon Logger32 comes up for a fraction of a second and is immediately replaced by this little error window ...

I've to restart the computer and do something else. Logger32 is NOT operational.

Previous history ... I'm using Logger32 together with JTDX and/or WSJT-X. Fantastic combo, serves me very well. With one small glitch ... Start sequence is "Logger32" > right click "UDP" > left click "UDP Band Map"> right click "Start" > left click "JTDX" or "WSJT-X". The latter both via Shortcut "On Top" & "High Priority". Both programs start as expected but are loosing connection within seconds to my radio IC-7300. I've to close all the software involved and make a total restart including Windows10. From now on all works fine for hours.

Extra note ... That procedure has to be followed every day when loading the combo L32_JTDX for the first time.
For the time being no Logger32 at all!!

Bob is just putting the finishing touches to the next Logger32 auto-update for version 4.0.290

Notable improvements coming in .290 include:

  • A cool new function to re-size and neatly align all the open BandMaps, painlessly
  • User-customized ADIFbands.TXT and ADIFmodes.TXT files are no longer callously overwritten by Logger32 updates – including this one, hopefully!

The updated .290 User Manual is online already, while Bob polishes and publishes the auto-update.

I’ve also taken the hint and explained how to move an existing Logger32 installation to a new system, new hardware etc.  As with the rest of the manual, it may not be perfect or sufficient, hence your feedback, complaints, corrections and improvement suggestions are very welcome – either here on the reflector for all to see or more discreetly to Gary@....  Say something apt, valuable, sharp or amusing and you might just find yourself quoted in green ink in a future edition!
