Zakanaka / Logger.

Paul Haavin / LA5QIA <la5qia@...>

Hello folks.

I have both 7.04 and Beta 2 running.
Don't see any major failurs so far, I guess most of the errors I've got is
my own fault.. hi
Running with a P200MMX and 64Mb ram, SB64 soundcard.
I don't use keying by the com-ports, I use vox on my old FT-980 and it don't
seems to be any problems with that. The only thing I discovered last year
was that when I used vox I had to use very very low level out of the
souncard to get a thin clean signal out. But it's no problem to run with max
output anyway.

Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do !! :))

Both are the same price from ARRL. Will both work with Logger?
I guess I have opened a can of worms with this question.
Thanks anyway.

Logger program won't run

scooter@...

This is the second install of Logger I have attempted. First was
7.03,latest was 7.04. I posted a message earlier, but no reply. After
entering a page of old logs (using ADD) the program comes up with a
DATABASE ERROR box (like the one on initial install) about couldn't
find your notepad.....when I click OK the program closes out to the
windows desktop. After that, any attempt to start logger gives the
entry screen, then the main logger program screen with the same error
box displayed and clicking OK closes it....

Any ideas? I don't want to enter any more data if that's the best I
can hope for...(I don't type that well to begin with...)

Zakanaka radiocomunication

Hello.
I am using Logger 7.04 and when I use the internal PSK I have no problem reading the freq or using the PTT function.
But when I use zakanaka, the PTT wont work, (vox works) and I can not get the data from my radio (ie. send freq )
All that is OK in Logger PSK.
What have I done wrong (again HI)
I use the original interface for Knwd IF-232C, and the same settings on both PSK and Zakanaka.
Any one who can help ???

VY good layout on the new Zakanaka BTW.

minor bug ?

Dave <dlavelli@...>

Hi all,

May be I found a minor bug in rev. 7.04 (but it is also
present in previous releases).
When you add QSOs with the "ADD" function, after first
input there is no updating of the ZONE field.
I mean if you enter: i.e. A52A you get zone 22 (that's
correct), but if you then enter another QSO i.e. SU9ZZ
there is no updating of the zone number after you enter
the callsign, Logger still shows zone 22 instead of the
correct zone 34 !. You must change it manually or click
on "CLEAR" button BEFORE enter next QSO.
To have the zone field resfreshed and showing the correct
information each time you enter a new QSO, after the first
one you should do that. All other fields have not this
problem and are refreshed OK.
Band and mode are updated when you enter the frequency,
prefix is updated when you enter the callsign, but NOT
the zone.
Moreover, entering the first QSO, as soon as you fill
required value the cursor automatically goes to next
value or tabulation

i.e.: to have
date: 07 05 2000 time: 10 11 00 callsign: A52A
you simply must digit: 07 05 2000 10 11 00 A52A

for the second and following QSOs this does not happen
and you have to push TAB key to change input field
so, to have the same result as above you must digit:
07 [TAB] 05 [TAB] 2000 [TAB] 10 [TAB] 11 [TAB] 00 [TAB] A52A

Does have any one else same problem ?

73, Dave

Re: minor bug ?

donnorwood@...

Sometimes when I want to add a contact which was not logged in real time, I
just go ahead and enter it as if it was occuring now. Then, I just change
the date/time fields. Very simple.

Actually I'm using SWISSLOG that I can convert into ASCII file. I've almost
70 000 QSO's and wouldn't take again my log so I'd like to know how to
convert my ASCII file into a Logger file ? Is it possible to have several

Here is an very small extract of my log

Sorry for my very bad and limited english. Hope it will be understandable

Guys (maybe Dolls too)
This subject may have been addressed before but since the archive has
been removed from the old Logger site I'm unable to check!.
I've gotten a PK900 to replace my 232, I'd like to use both the ports
from within Logger (v7.04) So that I can have the DXCluster active
whilst I'm running RTTY. I saw a few messages the other day about
dual-port Kantronics TNC and the consensus seemed to be that it
wasn't possible to run dual-port TNC's in Logger.
If it can't be done I can always run both the '900 and the '232 from
two seperate serial ports but it seems a shame....
The old adage of Beggars can't be choosers springs to mind but I can
but ask!!

Sorry about the archives. I know a lot of valuable information was lost,
but at the request of the owner of the original list, we did not revive
the data after he pulled the plug. We'll just have to start over. Anyone
who wants to create a FAQ or other text document that would be even better
than searching through old posts, please do so and post it on the list web
site at www.egroups.com under "hamlogger". Of course, you can send it to
me and I'll be happy to post it for everyone. Thanks.

Re: PK900

K4SB <k4sb@...>

Well Jeff, a couple of suggestions;

First, Logger is a dumb terminal. You cannot use the KAM ports
unless you are in KISS ( or Host , forget which ) mode, and
Logger doesn't do that. Incidentally, KISS mode sets the TNC to
pass all data exactly like it received it, and depends on the
software to unscamble it. You bypass the TNC essentially except
for the reception of the packet.

So, if you want to connect to a VHF cluster, and RTTY away, you
have to use dual comm ports. BUT, you do NOT have to be connected
to monitor a cluster. The small window in the upper right will
display the spot, and this is also the window which has packet
filters. Of course, you can monitor with the cluster window if
you wish, but you get the same spots sent to everyone.
Incidentally, if you have radio control enabled, clicking the
mouse on one of the spots in the upper right will QSY you, even
unconnected.

I found a program the other day called RxCluster, which
supposedly has filters to monitor spots unconnected, but receive
them just as connected. For the life of me, I can't make it work
on Receive only, but I'm still trying.

73 Jeff, ZC4JP
Hi Jeff

The answer is that it IS possible to use the PK-900 to both monitor
the cluster and run an HF mode such as RTTY, but it's not very
convenient. How to do it is explained at (great) length in the PK-900
manual.

You must first connect to the packet cluster, using the PK-900 in
dual
mode (Radio 2), from the Data window. Logger will pass received
cluster spots to the DX cluster window in exactly the same way as it
does from the packet or telnet windows.

You can now use Radio 1 on the PK-900 for RTTY or what have you. BUT
you have to manually switch between the modes, and everything from
all
sources comes onto the same data window. It is exceptionally easy to
get confused and send hf commands to the cluster and vice versa.

I use a separate TNC for cluster. It's easier and nicer .....

Re: LOGGER

Josef Klimosz <Josef.Klimosz@...>

Dear Bert,

There is not problem to import your data to Logger. You must get it in ADIF
format. I don't know if your version of Swisslog has this feature. If yes
simple use ADIF export in Swisslog - ADIF import in Logger. If not you must
use some helper. I'm using the shareware version of YPLOG
(www.nucleus.com/~field ). Your data in ASCII format must be imported to
Excel and exported as CSV (comma separated value) file. YPLOG can import CSV
file - you must fill a simple form where is order and contens of data fields
in your CSV file (f.e. 1 - Date, 2 - Time, 3 - Callsign....etc), type of
used separator character (; or ,), date format (f.e. YYYY-MM-DD) and
frequency format (kHz, MHz, m). After import of CSV to YPLOG you will get
Yplog file with extension .log (f.e. F6HKA.log). You must open this file and
export it in ADIF format (F6HKA.adi). This file can be imported to Logger.
Make backup files in each step.

73 and nice hamming with Logger.
