How to start Rexx ? #rexx #sixpack 1.2 #rexx #sixpack

Dave Wade

Well I just tried this and it seems fine on my sixpack.

So what does “q impex” report?

What does “list diskmap * *” give?

If you have a “diskmap exec” does the first line start “/*”

Hi everyone !

I trying to run diskmap exec script, but seems like rex or brexx is not working in my sixpack 1.2+

I get this messages:

Ready; T=0.05/0.16 22:14:02
diskmap
Unknown CP/CMS command

Ready(00801); T=0.01/0.01 22:14:13
ex diskmap
Unknown CP/CMS command

Seems like the rexx intepreter is not being called.

The same is happening with every rex script I try, also with sixpack 1.2 .

How can I make rexx to interpret and execute my rexx files. ?

If you run what Dave indicates from CMSUSER, this appears:

If you run it from MAINT, this appears:

Note that it runs properly as CMSUSER.

René Ferland

Hello Carlos,

DISKMAP EXEC is on MAINT and, by default, BREXX is not activated on this virtual machine. First load BREXX:

RESLIB LOAD GCCLIB
RESLIB LOAD BREXX ( NAME DMSREX SYSTEM

Then run the DISKMAP command. On CMSUSER, BREXX is loaded by default at logon.

Cheers,

Rene FERLAND, Montreal

I think  Maint has a “sysprof exec” on its “A” disk that stops REXX loading. Try renaming it to something like “sysprof x” then the one from the “Y” disk runs.

Hi all,
I first tried the solution provided by Professor Ferland using the RESLIB commands and got these results:
maintA.JPG
I then did the following using Dave's solution:
maintB.JPG

You are right Jim, I forgot one command, GLOBAL TXTLIB GCCLIB, before the RESLIBs. But Dave's solution is better, because then SYSPROF EXEC S is executed and that one does the job correctly.

I remember having to start running the Sixpack provided SYSPROF EXEC which
loads BREXX and GCCLIB on the MAINT ID, so I could run REXX EXECs on MAINT.
Maybe we can fix that on the next Sixpack.

I believe the DISKMAP EXEC on Sixpack 1.2 is the version from VM/SP. I wrote my own
version in REXX before I looked into the VM/SP version. The VMSP version has some bugs caused
by some of the lines being truncated. Anyway, I would prefer that it be removed from
the next Sixpack for copyright reasons.

Adrian Southerland and I are testing our updated BREXX and plan to release it as
soon as we can. It adds many more system interfaces to provide a more complete
REXX environment, built on the work provided by Dave Wade and Bob O'Hara.

Hopefully, we can get going on releasing a new Sixpack relatively soon. I want
to help in that effort once our REXX updates are made available to Sixpack users.

Please don't post text as pictures. They say a picture is worth a
thousand words, but these pictures are more than 22.000 words large
(some 95.000 bytes).
But their actual content is at most 500 words or so, so it's a big
waste.

Also, it is annoying to have to open a picture viewer to get the meaning
of a mail.
