GB2353: Saturday 21 May: Chinese Lunch at the Islington Chinese Association

Gordon

Message 2353:

SATURDAY 21 MAY: CHINESE LUNCH at the ISLINGTON CHINESE ASSOCIATION (special prices for "Gordon's friends" if paid in advance: £9 until 6 May, then £10 until 16 May, or £12 on the day)

(Optional) Meeting, Transport and Venue Details:  Meet Gordon on Saturday 21 May, between 11.50am and 12 noon at Archway Underground Station (Zones 2 & 3), inside the station near the ticket barriers. We will walk to the Islington Chinese Association (ICA - https://islingtonchinese.com ), 21 Hatchard Road, N19 4NG, 10 to 15 minutes' walk. You can view a map at https://tinyurl.com/4sesn5eb . Please note that there will be no service on the Northern Line between Archway and High Barnet / Mill Hill East, but replacement buses will operate. We will walk past Upper Holloway London Overground Station (Gospel Oak to Barking Line, Zone 2), which would have been a more convenient optional meeting point, but unfortunately this line will be closed for weekend engineering. However, if this route is convenient for you, you could use the replacement buses that will operate between Gospel Oak and Seven Sisters. If you are driving, you will be pleased to learn that there is free street parking near the venue at weekends.

Timing:  Please try to arrive between 12 noon and 12.30pm, so that the meal can start to be served at 12.30pm. In case you cannot arrive by this time, please make sure to arrive by no later than 1pm. The meal will be over by 2pm.

The Menu:  We will be treated to an inexpensive, simple but adequate three-course meal, comprising sweetcorn soup for the starter; rice, Chinese-style chicken curry, fried butterfly prawns and a vegetable dish (cauliflower crown with mushrooms and shredded vegetables) for the main course; and water chestnut cake for dessert. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to cater for vegetarians, but you can request extra vegetables instead of the fish and meat, and if, for example, you do not like meat but eat fish, you can request extra fish instead of meat. Your meal will be prepared and served by volunteers. If you would like to buy drinks, bottles of water, cans of soft drinks and large cups of jasmine tea will each cost £1. You will be able to pay by card or in cash. Please note that the venue is not licensed to sell alcoholic drinks, and we are not allowed to bring our own.

The Cost:  The cost of your meal will be £9 if you book and pay by 6 May, and £10 if you book and pay between 7 May and 16 May. These are special prices for members of my group (for others, it is £12). If you prefer to pay on the day, you will not receive a discount and your meal will cost £12 (but please note that, in this case, you are still asked to book by Monday 16 May). You can pay on the day either by card or in cash.

How to Book and Pay for Your Lunch:  Please book individually using Google Forms, as the form is for only one person. Click on https://forms.gle/kH6GUjSSY5Rt3RTx6 and after completing the required information, click on "Submit" at the bottom of the form. Under "Payment method", select either payment by Bank Transfer (if paying £9 or £10 in advance) or payment in person at the ICA (if paying £12 on the day). If paying through Bank Transfer, please do so within 3 days of booking. Should you have any problems regarding your booking, or need to cancel, please contact the ICA at info@... (and not myself).
