Gordon
Message 2351:
TUESDAY 3 MAY (evening): A BAROQUE EXTRAVAGANZA FOR UKRAINE at ST. JAMES'S CHURCH, SUSSEX GARDENS, LANCASTER GATE (half-price tickets, from £5, for my members, but booking and payment through Eventbrite required)
Stavros Dritsas has kindly offered members of my group half-price tickets for a concert given by the City of London Soloists on Tuesday 3 May, at St. James's, Sussex Gardens (the Parish Church of Paddington), starting at 8pm.
Concert Programme: Bach's Keyboard Concerto in D Minor, BWV 1052 (Greek pianist Stavros Dritsas); Telemann's Viola Concerto in G Major, TWV 51:G9 (British violist Matt Johnstone); Vivaldi's Concerto for 2 Violins in A Minor, RV522 (Ukrainian violinist Yuliya Ostapchuk, Czech violinist Leona Gogolicynova); and Bach's Concerto for 2 Violins in D Minor, BWV1043 (Moldovan violinist Dan-Iulian Drutac, Brazilian violinist Rebecca Köhler Baratto). The concert will last about 70 minutes, and there will be no interval. Complimentary printed programmes will be available.
The City of London Soloists: The City of London Soloists is a string chamber orchestra comprising some of London’s finest young musicians. It was founded in 2020 by Stavros Dritsas.
Stavros Dritsas: London-based pianist Stavros Dritsas ( http://www.stavrosdritsas-piano.com ) hails from Greece. Some of you will remember attending his piano recital at St. James's Church, Piccadilly, in May 2017, and the City of London Soloists' Conway Hall debut concert in February 2020. Stavros kindly offered my group complimentary tickets for both these concerts (so do please support this charity event).
Charity Event: All ticket proceeds will be donated to the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal ( https://www.dec.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-humanitarian-appeal ), and the government will match this amount, thereby doubling it.
(Optional) Meeting, Transport and Venue Details: Meet Gordon between 7.20pm and 7.30pm, at Lancaster Gate tube station (Central Line, Zone 1), just outside the station. It is not much further, should you find it more convenient, to walk from Queensway (Central Line) or Bayswater (District and Circle Lines). It is also possible, though slightly further, to walk from Paddington (District, Circle, Bakerloo and Hammersmith and City Lines and National Rail). We will walk to St. James's, Sussex Gardens ( http://www.stjamespaddington.org.uk ), the Parish Church of Paddington. Click on http://tinyurl.com/jn2vuft to view a map. The postcode is W2 3UD.
