Message 2374:

TUESDAY 22 NOVEMBER (evening): MUSICA DE LA TIERRITA (CONCERT OF COLOMBIAN MUSIC FOR FLUTE AND GUITAR) at the CERVANTES INSTITUTE (tickets at the special price of £6, with advance booking and payment required by Monday 21 November)

The Echoes Festival ( https://www.echoesfestival.co.uk ) has kindly offered my members a limited number of tickets at the special price of £6 for a concert to be held at the Cervantes Institute on Tuesday 22 November, starting at 7pm.

About the Concert:  We will discover some fresh and irresistible contributions to the flute-guitar repertoire from 'the land of a thousand rhythms'. Accompanied by flautist Emily Andrews, classical guitarist Francisco Correa presents music from his debut album, Música de la Tierrita ('music from the homeland'), exploring music for flute and guitar by composers from his native Colombia, including works written especially for him. These pieces mix classical and Colombian folk styles, drawing heavily on the rhythms and dances of central Colombia, such as the Bambuco, the Pasillo and the Joropo, but using more complex harmonies than traditionally used in folk music. The resulting music is worthy of world recognition on the concert stage while remaining undeniably Colombian.

Detailed Programme:

Luis Uribe Bueno Bandolita (Arr. R. Monroy/Francisco Correa)

Jorge Andrés Arbelaez Graffiti No. 1

Daniel Saboya ‘Guabina para un músico del Sur’ from Suite Colombiana No. 1

Lucas Saboya Bellavista | Ojos color de oliva Despasillo por favor Macála

Juan Carlos Guío Nancy Cacao

Santiago Bernal Dilo otra vez

Heraclio Fernández El Diablo suelto (Arr. D. Saboya)

Andy Scott Paquito (Arr. F. Correa)

About the Musicians:  British flautist Emily Andrews ( http://emilyandrewsflute.com ) and Colombian guitarist Francisco Correa ( http://www.franciscocorreaguitar.com ) have been performing together, as the Correo Andrews Duo, for over 10 years. You can read more about them at https://www.echoesfestival.co.uk/musicadelatierrita (scroll down).

Booking and Payment:  The usual price of tickets is £30 (£25 concessions), but we have been lucky enough to be offered tickets at £6. However, this is for advance booking and payment only. The deadline is 11.59pm on Monday 21 November, but the number of tickets offered to my group for this small and intimate venue is limited to 25, so the offer could be withdrawn earlier. To book and pay, click on https://www.echoesfestival.co.uk/musicadelatierrita and then on "Book Online". Enter BEAL as the password or discount code, and then click on "Show Available Tickets". After this, you should see that friends of mine can book for £6 a ticket, with no transaction fee added. You will be able to pay by Visa, Mastercard or Maestro. If possible, to facilitate your ease of entry, either print your ticket or be prepared to show it on a mobile device. However, if you cannot do this, the organisers will be able to find your details at the door.

Venue and Optional Meeting Details:  The Instituto Cervantes ( https://londres.cervantes.es ) has moved since we last attended as a group. The new address is 15-19 Devereux Court, WC2R 3JJ, and the nearest tube station is Temple (District and Circle Lines, Zone 1). Those who would like to do so may meet me at this station between 6.20pm and 6.30pm in the ticket hall, to walk together to the venue. To view a map, click on https://tinyurl.com/bdddjd34 . Since it is free seating, it makes sense to arrive in good time to get the best choice of seats.

Timings:  The doors will open at 6.30pm, and the concert will start at 7pm and end at about 8pm. There will be no interval.
