GB2372: Wednesday 30 November: Screening of Colombian Film "Mateo" at Colombian Consulate
Gordon
Message 2372:
WEDNESDAY 30 NOVEMBER (evening): SCREENING OF COLOMBIAN FILM "MATEO" at the COLOMBIAN CONSULATE (free event, but booking through Eventbrite required)
About "Mateo": Mateo, aged 16, collects extortion money from shopkeepers in the city of Barrancabermeja on behalf of his uncle, a local crime boss, and uses his pay to help out his mother, who accepts the ill-gotten money out of need. To prove his worth, Mateo agrees to infiltrate a local theatre group and uncover its members' political activities. As he becomes enthralled with the creative lifestyle of the troupe, his uncle escalates demands on him to produce incriminating information on the actors. Under pressure, Mateo must make difficult choices. He and his mother find their dignity as they face the perils of doubting the established hierarchy of Colombia’s armed conflict. You can read about Maria Gamboa, the director, by clicking on the Eventbrite booking link and scrolling down, and you will also be able to watch a trailer. This event is organised by the Colombian Embassy, with the support of the Colombian Consulate, and they are kindly providing Colombian snacks.
Booking Procedure: I suggest you book as soon as possible, while places remain. Go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/screening-of-colombian-film-mateo-tickets-456959777997 , click on "Reserve a spot" and then on "Register". You may book only one ticket, so if you want to come with others, you will need to ask them to book for themselves. After booking, you should receive an e-mail confirmation automatically. There is no need to print your ticket as your name will be on the guest list.
Timings: The doors open at 6.30pm, I aim to arrive around 6.45pm, and the film is scheduled to start at 7pm. Assuming it starts on time, it should finish around 8.30pm.
Venue and Transport Details: The Colombian Consulate is at 35 Portland Place, W1B 1AE. To view a map, click on https://tinyurl.com/4trrejw4 . This is walking distance from four tube stations, so I have decided not to have a meeting point at a station, but to meet you in the event. The nearest station is Regent's Park (Bakerloo Line), and Great Portland Street (Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan and Circle Lines) is only slightly further. Oxford Circus (Bakerloo, Central and Victoria Lines) is also within easy walking distance, and Goodge Street (Northern Line) is not much further. Alternatively, you could use the Elizabeth Line and walk from Bond Street station.
