[SouthBendLathe] Cleaning files fouled by aluminum
Interesting. I normally use a file card, but some of the files I've found at estate sales have all kinds of odd stuff on them so different methods are interesting. I'll have to try some of these out.

Hi all, I have finally retired and can now indulge myself in new interests. I let you guess what one of them might be. Could I indulge myself and buy a small lathe - yes but what would I learn from do

A whopping $42.22 with tax. Still need a small live center with a 1/2" shank to go in it though.

Gingery shaper patterns available

If anyone is interested in paying shipping, I have Rick Sparber's patterns used for casting parts to make the Gingery shaper. I think I also printed out all of his modifications to the original design

Bench Grinder Vibration
I bought a bench grinder from Harbor Freight. I bolted it to my bench, but the motor is a little loose in the base. It works fine, but makes a lot of noise, especially spinning up to speed when I turn

So first off a brief intro... I first found Dave's books almost 30 years ago and started to build the lathe which took me near a year to finish but I got there. I built it out of bronze and stainless

CAD Software Recomendations?

I'm taking a class in SolidWorks, so I have a SolidWorks license through the school. I'm looking for a CAD program for cheap or free, with a reasonable learning curve for users familiar with SolidWork

So I ordered these 5/8" shank carbide lathe bits, not thinking that my holders only handle up to 1/2". A box of ten was cheap. Decided to trim a couple down to fit. Guess what machine cut each one. Bo

Question for those who cast with lost foam, would you recommend that people new to casting start with lost foam, or work with wood patterns first?
