I don't think it needs to be hardened. If you just want to, that would be up to you. Be aware that hardening it will cause it to warp. Then you'd need to grind it. You essentially open several cans of

I would say no. It shouldn't need hardening. If you want to protect it go with an enamel or epoxy paint.

When I archived the yahoo groups. This and casting hobby, mini mill, etc I did not archive the links page. Most of the links were not valid after the 20 years of adding and not deleting things.

The castings were definitely troublesome. Headstock and the bed were the worst. Although over time it did get better and when I picked up the book by John Campbell, it all started to turn a corner.
