The fact Emigration
haakwahl@...
After converting from TMG, among other things, I have a challenge with the emigration event. In TMG, the statement is: [P] <|and [PO]> emigrated <[D]> <to [L]><[M]> In FH: {individual} emigrated <from {_place}> <to {_place2}> {date} {age} <together with {other=emigrant}> This causes the destination to be placed in the field of departure, but with the text Emigrated from. The text in the "Sentence" field is correct (emigrated to), but in reports “emigrated from”. One solution is to move the text in "Place" to the field "To:" However, I have more than 1,500 cases. Does anyone have suggestions for a solution for this case? Thanks in advance. Haakon Wahl |

It is not a good idea to move the Place: field to the To: field because Place: is a standard GEDCOM field but To: is not. Probably the best solution is to convert all the Emigration events to Immigration events whose Sentence Template is something like: {individual} migrated <to {_place}> <from {_place2}> {date} {age} <together with {other=immigrant}> And in the Facts tab top pane, it will say ‘Immigrated to USA’ for your example. Use the ‘Change Any Fact Tag’ plugin from the Plugin Store to bulk change every Emigration to Immigration. If you need help running that plugin then ask again. Mike Tate

I forgot to mention shared Fact Witnesses with the Role of Emigrant. If your Emigration events have such Fact Witnesses then after changing to Immigration events they need their Role changed to Immigrant. If only a few they can be edited by hand, otherwise the ‘Search and Replace’ plugin can be used. From: family-historian@groups.io <family-historian@groups.io> On Behalf Of Mike Tate

Thank you so much, Mike Tate. The proposed solution works as predicted on my trial project. On the main project, however, it stops. Your presumption of need for help was correct. The "Confirm Edit" command is not available. 'Change any Tag' plugin stops. The Change 'Source Tag Name' field in 'Target Tag Name' remains grey. I'm grateful for the proposed solution. I am grateful for a proposed solution. Haakon

Hi Haakon, Yes, sorry, there is a minor bug in the Plugin when dealing with a Project based Fact Set that I am trying to fix. Here is the current workaround… Select any other Source Tag Set: such as Standard or and then return to TMG Import (project) and it should work fine.

Thanks again, Mike. The Plugin starts; sometimes only after several attempts. So, now I'm on to this part of the customization to FH! Haakon

What takes several attempts? 1) Initial run of Plugin to show the main dialogue window with four tabs. 2) Clicking the green button to change ‘Emigration to Immigration’. 3) Something else.

It is difficult to make the green button visible. In many cases, the field remains gray. Haakon

Remember that I explained that is a current known bug that I am working on fixing and there is a workaround. So is the grey button still a problem even after using my suggested workaround? i.e. First select any other Source Tag Set and Target Tag Set, then reselect TMG Import (project).

I've followed your instructions exactly. The field remains gray, only in rare cases do I move on. But it's okay with me. I can use the Change Spesific Fact Tag to have better control. Besides, I'm testing out another solution. Thank you for your good and educational help. Haakon
