Importing Source Templates from the Internet

Jim Stothers

I have read that I can import source templates from the web, rather than create them from scratch, but I can't see how to do that.  These would be templates made by other FH uses and made available to others. The template I want is relatively simple - Mourning Cards used in Ireland around 1900. Fields are just name of deceased, residence, age, date of death, date of burial, place of burial, name of person giving the notification and relationship of the deceased to them, so it wouldn't be too hard to construct. However, I will likely want to use more complicated source templates in the future so it would be good to know how to find and use them.

Hi Jim,

Yes, it is technically possible to import/export Source Template Definitions from/to outside FH including the Internet. However, only Source Template Collections (.fhst files) can actually be transferred.

See the Tools > Source Template Definitions… dialogue Import and Export buttons.

Currently, there are only a few such definitions in the FHUG Knowledge Base Downloads.

See https://fhug.org.uk/kb/downloads/

You can also Clone existing definitions similar to what you need and make the necessary amendments.

Thanks Mike. I've looked at the FHUG Knowledge Base Downloads page and that is what I was thinking about.
What I don't understand is that when I go to Tools > Source Template Definitions… dialogue Import buttons get the Documents folder on my PC - I expected to get a web page.
I tried putting
https://fhug.org.uk/kb/downloads/  in as the location, but that wasn't accepted.

All the Import and Export buttons and commands in FH only work with local files on your PC.

So you must first download the .fhst file from the Knowledge Base to your PC and then Import it.

The same method applies to all similar downloads of Diagrams, Queries, Plugins, etc.
