Auto date input when adding Media!
Paul Tanner-Tremaine
Does anybody know how I can switch off the automatic input of today's date into the date field when I add any media? I have been using that date as the date when the media was created, so that they are available for sorting. Now I find that the date field is automatically filled with the current date. If I want to know when i added the media, I can check the last change date. It appears to have changed from being blank since 7.17 or 7.18?

Paul, with FH 7.0.19 I’ve tried adding Media and the Date field is always blank. There are many ways to add Media via the Add menu, Media tabs, drag & drop, etc. Exactly which method are you using? Do they all auto-add the Date?
What is your Tools > Preferences > Media > Copy Image Tag values setting?

Mike,
Tools->Prefs->Media->Copy tag Images is ticked. My normal process is adding media to a Citation. Saved an image of a death record to my project folder. Sourced and cited the Death info. Changed to the Media tab, Add to citation. Insert from file. I then edit the file to give it a keyword of Death Record and then add the date when the estate was processed in the Date field. It now defaults to the current date or possibly the date that I downloaded the image, |

I’ve repeated that process and still don’t get any Date value. Try unticking the Copy Image Tag Values option ~ does that make any difference? Try using PNG files as opposed to JPG files because PNG do not have EXIF Image Tag Values.

Thanks, Mike. Unticking that Copy Tag values seems to do the trick.

Paul, that sounds back to front doesn't it? Jackson On Thu, 16 Mar 2023, 17:57 Paul Tanner-Tremaine, <paul@...> wrote: Thanks, Mike. Unticking that Copy Tag values seems to do the trick. |

Why? Paul does not want the Date in the Media file copied to the Media record Date field. So he has disabled the Copy Image Tag Values feature to prevent the Date being copied.
