Locked Ancestry subscription
DJT
Can anyone let me know whether the Ancestry subscription link which Trevor Rix kindly mentioned in his post of 15 September 2017 is still available to get the 50% discount on Ancestry subscriptions.
The wording was: “Subscribing to both Ancestry and Findmypast is more affordable if this link is used to obtain a 50% discount on Ancestry”
And the click-on link mentioned was: http://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/sub ... e+External
Last year, I was able to successfully use the link and get the discounted subscription. However, now when I click on the link, what appears is just an Ancestry page with the normal subscription amount (£99.99 for a 6 month subscription).

No, it has been taken down. I phoned customer support a couple of weeks ago, just before my subscription expired, explained that I had bought the worldwide subscription for £89.99 last year, and asked if there was anything they could do for me. I got another year for the same price.
It’s worth asking. They can only say no 😉

From another group I am subscribed to. Just a heads up, Ancestry have a half price offer on until Jan 9th for the UK Premium subscription £59-99 for 12 months. If you were thinking of taking out a subscription now would be the time. I'm also told that if you still have an active subscription they will allow you to renew at the offer price when the time comes provided you let them know before the 9th. I can, however, confirm that there are no longer discounts for Ancestry’s Worldwide subscription - I enquired yesterday as I’d paid half price for it for the last couple of years… might consider returning to the UK subscription next time.

Nicola, whilst there are no discounted offers being advertised, I think it depends to some extent who you happen to speak to and what you ask for.
I renewed WW recently for £89.99. I didn’t ask for a half price WW sub. I just mentioned that I had paid £89.99 for it last year, that I am retired with a finite income, and then asked if there was anything they could do for me regarding my renewal. The result was £89.99 again.
I have seen on RootsChat that people are still getting that price. The latest was yesterday. If the agent you are speaking to doesn’t make the offer you want, be prepared to politely decline and try again a day or two later, when the chances are you will be speaking to someone else.

I have a Worldwide subscription and renewal is due 31 January. £179.99. I have not been able to locate a telephone number to attempt a negotiation. Numbers not recognised! . I would appreciate your sharing contact ancestry numbers. I live in Dublin

Edward, First thing I would recommend is check your account and remove any auto renewal, they will contact you or at least you contact them from a better position. And I second Phil's advice, be prepared to walk away and maybe go cold turkey for a short time. Ancestry UK phone number and successfully renewed my UK Premium subscription at £59.99. Wouldn't have managed it without you all! On Sun, 1 Jan 2023 at 13:01, Nicola Byrnes <nicola.byrnes1966@...> wrote:

I have just bought 2 more Ancestry DNA kits on their Christmas offer, and took advantage of their addon offer of Worldwide Premium for just £1 for 3 months, then recurring £49.99 [er quarter, but will cancel before that.
Worth looking for if you are buying kits for others. |

Thank you all for helphul advice. I am a member of The Irish Genealogy Research Society. I noticed that Ancestry give members a 20% discount.. I called Ancestry on 1800 303 667 (Regional Support?) and asked if I could have the discount on renewal. The lady made enquires and replied that I should call the day before expiry of my subscription to cancel and then renew. This will be 30 January so I await outcome.

Update on my efforts to get a discount on renewal of subscription to Ancestry. As I was abroad on renewal date I was unable to contact Ancestry on their advised regional telephone number. Back at my bench today and hapilly achieved a 25% discount for the Worldwide Membership annual

50% discount should have been offered to you.

I should have haggled and if necessary go cold turkey for a period as suggested! Do better next year.
