Just go to the main menu in Ancestry, click Trees and look at the drop
down list. That will show you your trees and the ones that you've been
given explicit access to. Remember that if it's a public tree, you
don't need explicit access so you might use one all the time and not
see it in that list.

By the way, thanks to all those who reassured us that you can keep
access on rejoining. Sounds like it's been written to allow people
back in and take up where they left off - which is not a given.

My account is 'Guest' but my tree and all the shared ones are still there.

I don't know the answer but logic says that if you cancel and become a new member, you will *not* retain your user identity - whether visibly or behind the scenes. Otherwise, surely you're not a new member?

That would imply that you didn't retain access to other people's trees because you're not you any more. My logic would even suggest that you don't retain update access to your own tree.

Now, can anyone confirm or deny my logic?

I've now done what I should have done in the first place which was RTFM!!

The official information is at https://support.ancestry.co.uk/s/article/Accounts-after-Cancellation

Basically you keep all you have - you just can't do certain things wiuthout a subscription.

I must be dim but I cannot see any discount arrangements on the link mentioned. It takes me to the Ancestry membership subscription page which refers to monthly or 6 monthly membership. £99.99 for 6 months worldwide membership.

Would someone please show me where to look for this offer.

The page the link directs me to is Ancestry.co.uk but if I put the cursor on the web address bar then this address changes to Ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/subscribe but I cannot open any such page.

Will somebody please put me right.

Thanks -- Peter

Hi Peter,

If I remember correctly you click on the link as you have already done and when you get to the page you mentioned you have to log in. After you log it it takes you to where the discount is.

Thanks I have found it now.

I get exactly the same result as Peter but still cannot see the 50% sub offer. Is it because I have an account but only for my DNA results?

I was a subscriber many years ago but no longer apart from the DNA service.

Any further help to get to the offer would be appreciated.

Regards

Paul

Do you have a paid subscription which is currently active? If so you must cancel the auto-renew & wait until it has expired. Otherwise, make sure that you are logged out of your account before clicking the link which was posted earlier in the thread. The offer isn’t freely available on the site otherwise. After clicking on the link, sign back into your account & the offer should come up.

Peter Atkinson asked for a consensus on FMP v's Ancestry. This is the link to the last discussion thread which I found really helpful:

As I explained to Peter you click the link and then you must log in to ancestry. Once you log in discount offer should be there. Even if you are only looking at your DNA results you should still have a log in for Ancestry.

Paul. I was responsible for  posting the link to the group a few days ago. Trevor Rix posted it way back in 2017 and I have saved it thinking I might one day re-subscribe. I did that successfully last week

But here is the link again. Hope it works:

I am obviously still doing something wrong as all I get is the option to pay the full amount (less £20).

Am I meant to click on the very first link that takes me to the FHUG page or the one mentioned in Peter's recent message.

Either way I don't get the offer coming up. I definitely am logged out when I try this.

Apologies but could the link be repeated so I can try it again.

Thanks

Paul

Many thanks - it worked!

Hmmm. It no longer seems to work as the subscriptions it has come up with today are for 1 month (£13.99) or 6 months - not 12 - £69.99. I'm sure it worked a couple of weeks ago as I made a diary note to deal with it (my sub expires next week).

You should see the discounted annual prices after you sign in.

Sue Herrington

I've been using the discount for at least the last 3years. As Trevor says, make sure you are logged in.

I don't think you will see the discount until after your existing subscription has expired.

I seem to remember when I did it I had renewed with the discount within 15 minutes of my subscription expiring.

Also, if you renew at the basic level you will get offers later to upgrade at a discount. I think this took a few weeks.

To get the discount do I cancel  or delete the account?

Just cancel it. Don't delete your account.

Thought it might be that.

I have had a look and it asdks for reasons, with a list, for leaving.

Perhaps I will remove the world wide part and get the payment reduced
