Unwanted doubling up in focus window?

Louis Naturani

Hi Folks,
Since importing my data from TMG a few years ago, I come across the occasional individual who appears twice in the focus window.  Once with a spouse with or without offspring, then again underneath on their own.
I would like to delete the second iteration without upsetting things.  Would someone have any ideas please?

If the ‘duplicate’ Individual records have the same [ Record Id ] then the important thing to understand is it is almost certainly caused by unwanted Family records, which FH often hides.

Hi
Thank you for your suggestion, however it does not quite address my situation.  See below for what I meant.
All duplicates have the same I.D.

Louis I’ve had this quite a few times and what I do is unlink the bottom Person and if it’s a couple duplicated unlink both. You’ll still have the single entry for the person.

Louis,

What that screenshot tells us is that William Rivett had children with two women – Mary Ayton (3 children, Richard, George and Elizabeth) and an unknow woman (1 child, Robert).  Before we start modifying your data, is that what you understand to be true? Or was Robert another child of Mary Ayton (the dates make that look likely).

I’d be a little concerned as well, that William Rivett was married aged 10 and had had three children before he was 15 years old and a fourth by his 18th birthday.

Louis

Because the image is embedded rather than attached makes it a lot more difficult to read.

However, from what I can read it needs to be two entries

The bottom one shows no spouses name So is not the same family as the first

The property box on the right shows the same thing

The first marriage shows Mary (I think) and the second says “no spouse”

Unless you can be certain that they are the same mother to all the children then what is displayed is correct

Even more concerning is Mary AYTON was only about 10 when Richard RIVETT was born and not much older for the other children!

Assuming they are all meant to be one family then it is a Family Record problem that needs Robert RIVETT to be unlinked and relinked to the original family.

I have come across someone elses tree which listed my 14 x great grandfather, aged 38, marrying a 10 year old gilr in 1765. She had a child when she was 11. I have not had time to verify this but my own thought are the other person made a typo error and put her birth date 10 years out making her 20. She went on to have 3 children. She became a widow aged 26 (or should tgis have been 36?) One day I will get round to verifying this

It is interesting that the age at which people could legally get married was not change till the Marriage Act of 1929 when

The age for girls was increased from 12 to 16

The age for boys was increased from 14 to 16

But still required parents consent
