Torre do Tombo (Portugal). Source. How would you classify it?
Laércio Silva Filho
Hello all,
I started today to include some digitized historical documents from "Torre do Tombo" archive, which have an online service to order documents (https://crav.arquivos.pt). I'm guessing what would
be an "correct" way to classify it among the sources of FH.
For instance, I got a page from the "Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo" (something like Tomb Tower National Archive), inside a collection called "Registo Geral de Mercês, Mercês de D. João V, liv. 36, f.458" (Mercy General Register, D. João V Register, book
36, page 458).
Which source template would you use for it?

Sorry, I can't help you with your query, but I am interested to learn more about this archive. My husband's mother was Portuguese and I've struggled finding resources (and in particular sources) to go back. If you can give me information, I'm happy for you to email me off list. Thanks

This website was recommended to me at Family Tree Live at Alexandra Palace in 2019.

I'm away from home so I can't look at my solutions. You can treat the top level archive as either a repository and create a source for each collection that you use in that repository or you can treat the archive the way I treat ancestry.com and create a source for each collection that you use within that archive it sounds the same but it works a little differently. When I get home I'll try to copy what I've done with the two situations because it's similar to my Swedish archives and ancestry in that you have a website with multiple collections. --Bev On Wed, Oct 19, 2022, 9:31 AM Laércio Silva Filho <laerciomovel@...> wrote:

Here are my two examples:
Websites with multiple collections might work for you with any modifications you see fit. For instance, I might create a source for Ancestry "1950 US Census", then cite that source adding the details of the individual records. The other is based on the Swedish Parish registers that are available from many different websites/vendors. It too can be modified to whatever you wish to show. |
