Custom Facts
Edward Sneithe
I have only been with FH7 so I am not very experienced at FH7. I am working on cleaning up my custom facts that I imported from Rootsmagic and have a couple of questions.
For custom facts I can add them to the overall facts that exist for FH7. I can also have custom facts that only apply to a particular project. Is there a way to see which are local and which are universal or do I need to compare both fact sets? I am making all my modifications to a test project only. When I am satisfied with the changes I need to get these mods back into the universal custom fact set. Is there an easy way to do this without a tedious cut and paste from the test project to my real project? I have successfully experimented with combining a birth and a baptism, and also death and burial into one. Each fact will test for the existence of the other fact and adjust the sentence accordingly. It works well but I am not sure I want to modify one of the standard FH facts. If I create a new birth fact (mybirth) will FH handle that as well as the current birth fact or will it be treated just as any other custom fact? I think FH does some unique things with certain facts. What other facts will FH treat uniquely? |

Tools > Fact Types will show you all the Facts applicable to your current project, including which fact set they’re in, and whether they’re applicable to the current project only – (fact set = Custom (project)).
When you’re happy with a ‘local’ fact, you can use the same dialog to copy it to the ‘global’ fact set of your choice.
You can create a custom fact called Birth (by copying the standard Birth fact) and it will ‘eclipse’ the standard fact and behave the same as it.
