I'm new to FH and watching a video of someone using the program I saw that they had configured the tabs and had one called Pool.
I can't find this anywhere! Please can someone help, as I have a lot of different families and would like to use this  tab.

Derek - 2nd attempt at posting this.
Right click on the column header bar and select Configure columns
Scroll down to the bottom of the Item Type box that appears and highlight <Other...>
Click the little right arrow in the centre to 'move it' to the right.
A pop up will appear  In Heading type Pool
in Expression type =RelationPool() and then click OK
Use the up/down arrows to move it to the correct position in the header bar columns.
OK when your happy!

In the same video people were found just by typing their initials. Doesn't work for me. Any idea how he did it?

Do you have a link to the video, Derek?

Also, have you tried using the Filter fields at the top of the records window?

To save watching all the video, the initials bit is at 26 min in.

I can't get it to work either Derek - I can select those having the first initial, but the filters always ignore the second name unless you first type in the complete first name.

Presumably when he then expresses surprise as to what happens he never explains the result 'as he doesn't want to confuse the audience'

That's part of the problem when creating an unscripted tutorial and you don't get the results you intended to show!  When he realised what was happening it would have been best to edit the segment or re-record it - but it appears that it was an interactive session so that was probably not possible.

I had watched that series of videos and was pleased and amused to have received a few mentions on that one.

I noticed that I initials thing and thought very handy but having just tried it I can't get it to work as it appeared. I'm guessing the presenter had various name variants recorded and the filter was picking up on those.

I get it to work as a 'progressive filter' in the Last Name and First name fields.
Let's assume you are looking for John Smith.
if you enter an s in the Last name field, and j in the First Name you will get all surnames starting with S and a First name starting with the J
if you enter an sm in the Last name field and J in the first name, you will get all surnames starting with Sm and a first name starting with J
Add the o to the First name, ie it is now 'jo' you will get all surnames starting with Sm and a first name starting with Jo, ie John, Jonathan, Joseph, Joyce, Josephine, etc.  if I change it to 'ja'  I get all the James, Jane, Jacob, Henry James, etc.

I also have about 182,000 individuals in my 1820 Settlers to South Africa study, and use this short cut quite often to narrow down my search quickly, particularly if there is an 'odd' Dutch name.  I have 13 females with Hermansina as one of their first names( most cases as the third name), 8 of them having Dicks as their last name.  So I just search for the first name field of Hermans and bingo - i get them all.  Easy then to pick the right one!
