After being very excited about the census, and also paying a subscription to Find my Past, I eagerly awaited this morning to continue the research on my extensive family tree.
However I have to pay £2.50 for every document I look at. Goodness knows how much that would cost. Anyone else finding this outcome disappointing? Or has anyone a way round it. Thanks Shirley Cann

I'm surprised you didn't know about the costs. It has been well advertised especially on their site. Personally disappointed that while I found my paternal grandfather this morning who I have yet to locate in 1911, I cannot find my maternal grandparents and children even using DOB and 'similar' filters. Past history would suggest about 5/6 months before it becomes a part of the subscription - with a cost of something like 25m for scanning, transcribing and putting it online has to be recovered somehow I shall do the essential family and what I need to be to lecture on it and then leave the rest till later - always lots of other things to do! As Neil says the costs have been well publicised. The only way I can think of to save money is to club together with another relative so that you don’t both pay to look at the same record. Also for £3.50 you see the actual document, not a transcription which might be prone to error. If you have a FMP Pro subscription you do get a 10% discount on the fees.

No way round it unless you can get to Kew or Manchester or National library of Wales where its free to view. Or wait for a year or so when it will be incorporated in sub (which you don't need now)or Ancestry - once the exclusive FMP licence had expired. Searches are free, so you can home in on the right record. This is the same charging model used initially for 1901, 1911 and 1939 My advice is be selective and look at electoral rolls too

You can get a small discount on each record if you have an FMP Pro subscription. So if you have a large number of records you need to obtain. The upgrade to Pro might pay for itself.

I was wondering the same thing. When viewing the scan, there is a button labelled 'Transcripts', but that just takes you to the page to pay for the transcript. However, if you click on the 'Extra Materials' button, you get the option to view the 'Original Image', the 'Cover' and the 'Front'. If you click on 'Front' it gives you another image which does indeed have the street address. Bit of a faff, though. If you don't see any of these options, click on the 'Open filmstrip' button at the bottom right while viewing the scan. Sue.

There are two pages per image one with the schedule and clicking the right arrow brings up the instructions form which includes the district, name of the person filling in the form plus the address, so you get 2 images for your money.

That's the same as me -- I started using 1837online when it went live (as a PAY PER VIEW site) in April 2003, and stuck with it when it morphed into FindMyPast in 2005 and ever since. If you've been using FindMyPast for 19 years, you've just had a memory glitch about the pay per view content -- or waited to use it until it was wrapped up in a subscription. Although 1837online never had a subscription, IIRC...

Hint to find families in 1921
This is a bit of a faff but it does work
1. Search for a known person e.g. Anthony Knibbs born 1920
2. When the results come up (only 1), hover your cursor over the image links
3. This will show you then name of the individual plus the 1st two names on the page
4. It will also show you how many others are on the page
In this Example we get Anthony, Elizabeth Emma, Frederick and 4 others
5. So we now know that there are 7 people in the household.
6. Remove the forename and date of birth from the search
7. Fill in Parish and Registration District and Search
8. This search should now find all the people of the same surname in that location.
25 people in this example
9. One by one hover your cursor over the links until you find people in the same household
10. Note the extra names each time you find one. Dave Simpson

Right click the image to see the ‘front’ page with the address and then download. Or go to ‘extra materials’ then ‘front’. If you leave the record before finding the other page and go back in via ‘my records’ you only get the data in image format. But if you repeat the search you can then view as above. Pain / faff but it works.
