Hi Folks
I am an avid user of FH
I am member of Find my Past itself as well
When a tip comes up in Family Historian hints is there a way Find my past can suggest a newspaper tip as well as BDM entries ????
This would be extremely helpful without having to log in and check their web site for same

Interesting in a couple of ways. Unless I'm missing something, there's nothing in the current FMP hinting mechanism to make it look for newspaper hints, and the scope of that hinting mechanism is entirely down to FMP.

The interesting bits start when you realize that even the native FMP search mechanism splits newspapers off from the standard person search. This suggests that it's a very different beast.

When you look at a typical FMP newspaper search, unless you use a really rare name, you get (or at least, I do) a deluge of data. That would suggest to me that newspaper hints in FH would be a similar deluge and you would be there forever trying to dismiss the hints. Also the only way to check the hints would be to get into the basic FMP GUI, which is what you were trying to avoid.

So, because of the nature of the search, I suspect it's wholly impractical to produce newspaper hints in FH. Perhaps sadly.

Thanks Adrian
In digesting your reply you have used very good logic in your thoughts in volume of possible items plus certain irrelevance as well. It would be unrealistic to think it would all be correct.
What i envisaged was the end being what i wanted not thinking about the bits in the middle
Thanks again

I think the different treatment of Newspaper Archives in FMP is due to how they arose.

FMP got a contract from the British Library to digitalise newspapers - and as with some other projects (e.g. early 1911 Census release) they put it on a separate site (https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk) with a separate subscription.

Your FMP sub gives you an inferior access to the collection - hence the deluge of data. You can use advanced search on BNA and find articles of interest and then either pay a sub - or try and find the same articles via FMP!  Ideally FH needs a BNA Hints facility (or FMP needs to properly merge the two sites as they did with the 1911 census - but perhaps with newspapers there is a distinct market for access and they want to maintain the premium service of BNA?)
